Corona virus - please stop with the politics

Actually enough details are available online that we can see estimate how the money will be distributed.

It made my blood boil when the CEO of Boeing said he would not accept any money for the govt if the govt asked for equity in return. All these icons of free-market capitalism are plain hypocrites. They are all for socialism when it works in their favor!

Ok I think I am getting dangerously political!

Lol mine too!

I follow worldometer corona stats. The number of death for NY today is 14. I pray that is accurate but seems wrong.

This is sad. Sounds like this hospital was pretty bad at stocking PPE before the crisis and then it hit the fan

I hear you man. I could post so much on this matter but risk running afoul of “political posts” rule, so not doing it.

Not replying to any post in particular, but I’m surprised this study hasn’t been cautiously posted. It’s only one very preliminary study (from China which for some will seemingly dismiss out of hand) with a fairly small sample size that has yet to pass peer review, but some robust findings in recent years have found statistically significant outcomes with other viruses (norovirus) and blood types and other, even behavioral outcomes such as anxiety and depression. Interesting, nevertheless.

I was in Berlin March 2-5 and there was not much as far as the public eye going on about the virus. They did have posters on public transportation, hotels, etc with tips on all the regular stuff (washing hands, coughing into elbow, staying home if sick). The thing I heard though was Germany put together a complex plan and started getting test kits ready in January. They took it super serious from the start. In Germany and the UK (was there Mar. 5-8) on the news they were asking why the wealthiest country in the world didn’t have test kits ready and had to explain why some sick people in the US don’t go to the doctor, sad to listen to honestly. UK media was pretty negative about their government blowing off the virus too.

Its hard to look at those countries who took it seriously earlier and compare ways to stop the spread. We have an entirely different fight. The best thing is to make sure we contain it better than Italy and look at possible mistakes they made.

And on the treatment side, convalescent plasma treatments/passive antibody therapy in NYC

Germany also won’t allow more than two people to congregate unless they’re family. So a crackpot preacher or politician there would get tossed in the slammer. Our liberty is a great thing but it can be a two-edged sword in some situations.

Problem with this study is, while interesting, it yields no actionable results at the individual or population level. It looked at blood types (curiously leaving RH factor out which would have been super easy to add) and found that having Type O was protective and having type A was higher risk for acquiring COVID. It did not address severity in relation to the blood types.

Regardless the percentage of COVID patients with Type O was 26-38% compared to 48% frequency in the population. The percentage of patients with Type A or AB was 41-48% compared to 34% in the population.

Neither of these data points are strong enough to look at a person who is either Blood Type and tell them they have it or dont have it. And you cant say the risk is too high for Type A or low enough for Typo O to base restrictions.

Glad I’m an O Negative in that case!

Never knew there was value in that!!!

The last paragraph is the reality. You have to run with what you have information wise, understand the weaknesses of the information you have and make the best decisions you can. Not much different than any war time situation where information is inconsistent, sometimes full of falsehoods with high variability, but you make your decisions with what you know and with what you got and keep charging.

Nice!

This is the best analytic website I have come across. It’s focused on Ontario, Canada, but it’s analysis and scenarios are really applicable anywhere.

Would recommend seeing on computer rather than phone. Phone is ok, but a bigger screen is nicer.

I feel for those in the front lines, our health care professionals are amazing …what they are doing with what they have is staggering…it’s akin to asking a soldier to go to war with a rubber-band gun

Interesting how Chinese retailers were so open to sharing their experiences and learnings.

Also shows that it is possible to prepare!

Not sure how much preparation actually took place out in the field though.

It wasn’t until just last week that I saw HEB sanitizing grocery carts, and limits on purchases only occurred within the last few weeks, or at least, that was the case at the local HEB in Katy where my wife and I shop.

HEB’s level of “preparedness,” given that, might be overstated.

Why prep when its actually going to be a boon?
