That 1970 game in Oxford was my first football roadie. Had a lot of fun despite us losing the game.

The stat imbalance in our favor in the wins we had over them the previous two years is eye-opening.

I’ve mentioned this here before… Coach Helton took my two young sons around the field to meet our players after one of the red/white scrimmages they held in those years. They were thrilled and I always appreciated his thoughtfulness. They brought along a pennant to be signed and it still hangs in their room which we’ve converted to my little grandaughter’s "princess’ bedroom she uses when she spends the night.

After looking back, my first UH road game was to aggieland in '65. A lost game, but I did manage to aggravate at least one cadet. First time I ever saw the big flag with the two "e"s. One before the aTm and one after. Loved the attitude.

Went to that game too. That was the night I made a promise. I promised Bacardi I would stay out of its life if it would stay out of mine. That relationship has held up pretty much 99.9 % of my days. Ooooof!

Today in 2011, Tyron Carrier returned the opening kickoff 100 yards, and Case Keenum threw 9 touchdown passes in a 73-34 win over Rice. Patrick Edwards had 318 yards and 5 TDs (on 7 catches).

In one stretch, UH scored 52 points on 41 snaps.

Today in 1978, No. 11 Houston beat No. 9 Arkansas, 20-9. It was UH’s 3rd top-10 win of the season.

Houston jumped into the AP Top 10 and stayed there for 18 of the next 20 weeks.

Speaking of history during the Kolb and Keenum era the football team came out to O’fortuna. It became a mini tradition was a song did a good job getting the fans and players pumped. Why did we stop? It should of been our tradition for entrance music like Virginia Tech and Enter the Sadman. I was watching some youtube vidoes of the best entrances in college football. There are program who have history and tradition with their entrances. We change our entrance music every year and it feels blah. Bring back O’Fortuna and make it a tradition! Always was a big rawr from the crowd when the music video accompanied it showed Shasta growling and the sack of UT quaterback.

Iirc they played this song, O Fortuna, with a similar video that also showed downtown Houston, game video on the side of the Metro Rail as an intro to the C-USA championship in 2006 vs Southern Miss, right before the team charged out of the tunnel. The crowd went wild. It was an awesome video. I wouldn’t mind this being a home game tradition.

It also reminds me of the final battle scene of the movie, Glory. Pretty awesome.

1978 was a weird year. We opened with a loss to a bad Memphis team, then won the SWC championship with only 1 conference loss, 22-21 at TT, then won the Cotton Bowl against ND. Yeah I know the records say ND won, but we know that last TD Pass was out of the end zone. We were robbed!!! Just another reason to hate Notre Dame.

Oh yeah, the ice on my seat was an inch thick and I froze my butt off.

I was at that game, 10 years old at the time. The Dome was packed and I remember Lou Holtz pacing the Hogs sidelines. What I remember most about that night, was not a good sight to see for a 10 year old, I watched an Arkansas fan stab a UofH fan when exiting the Dome. That was tramatic and still sticks with me to this day.

9 years ago today, UH beat UCF 31-24 at TDECU in a weird one. UCF led 21-3 at halftime and 24-3 before UH stormed back with four TDs in 17 minutes.

UH drives before the TDs:

INT
Punt
INT
FG
Punt
INT
Half
Fumble (first drive 3rd quarter)

But starting with that fumble, UCF had -8 yards total in their next 7 drives (23 plays).

For UH’s first half FG, they went 19 plays:

I don’t remember a UH drive going for more than 19 snaps (but I’m sure it’s happened).

One of the dumbest games I’ve ever been to: Halloween 1998 at ECU

Today, on a windy day in Tampa in 2014, UH beat USF 27-3. Greg Ward went 15/19 for 89 yards and a TD. Kenneth Farrow had 112 yards and a TD. Efrem Oliphant had a sack, 2 TFL, and a forced fumble.

The 2014 game was the only time UH played on 11/1 since 1997 (until today).

11-1 USF 2014

Yes, but you had to catch them early because they had all left the stadium by halftime :sunglasses:.

They stuck around longer for that one than they did in Austin the next year.
