Especially with the probations and the consequences that followed. I read an interesting stat when the Astrodome was built and when we played there early on. We often had 40k+ crowds. This is when we beat sec teams regularly. These probations had a devastating impact when we had momentum. Without these probations there is no telling where we will be today and how far we could have gone.
Always enjoyed Ed Fowlerâs show on KSEV back in the day. Probably cause his intro was Willieâs version of Johnny Bushâs âWhiskey River.â Always respected that even though Fowler had a voice for a writer.
This was the best sports radio show that I have ever heard. They were writers that did not take themselves seriously. The Three Amigos show was gold. truly awesome. I have listened to different sports radio shows in multiple states, none came close to it.
In 1978, Houston shutout the Aggies, 33-0:
75 years ago today, Houston beat Louisville at Public School Stadium:
Attended that 1978 game.
Was 33-0 at the half. No scoring at all in the second half.
Our only team to have two 1000 yard rushers.
Only game against the Aggies i ever went to where their fans were silent for almost the entire game. Just nothing to cheer about. A great, dominant winâŠ
I remember everyone chanting âpoor aggiesâ throughout the second half. With the game being in the dome, the chants rose up hit the roof and came back down.
The second half of that game was highlighted by Aggies limping off the field in droves. They wanted out of the game.
Also, it is worth noting that the Aggie team burst onto the field at the start of the game during the playing of the national anthemâŠâŠ.what class !!
YesâŠâŠ ut also outnumbered us in AustinâŠâŠexcept when we were whipping their ass and then their âfansâ were gone by halftime.
Also, worth noting that during the many probations handed out during the â80âsâŠ. One team never was handed a probation. And still the biggest cheaters to this day !!
ut SUCKS !
AhhâŠThe good old days.
From 1976-1980 we beat A$M 4 times in 5 years.
Just one of the reasons us Oldtimers like to comment on past eras and teams.
We had incredible teams in 1960âs and especially the 1970âs.![]()
Iâve been around worse fans, but those cowbellsâŠugh.
One thing I experienced there for the first time was a non-Third World restroom where you just pee on the floor. The had cut a groove into the concrete near the wall that created a piss river across the floor.
And a couple of dudes were in there wearing flip flops. #shudder
Werenât these at Rice Stadium, too? Iâm certain LSUâs Tiger Stadium had them. Legion Field, maybe, too.
I enjoyed the 09 trip to Starkville. Good steaks, ok casino, rockinâ bowling alley.
I donât remember them at Rice Stadium - they just had the intimate low-walled stalls and troughs. ![]()
Maybe the golden stream concept was an SEC thing.
Rice Stadium had the Blacks only, Whites only bathrooms signs that were not painted over very good until about year 2000. They were in the end zone. If I could see them from the stands, Iâm sure the Rice administration could as well.
I really enjoy these articles.
If you have any articles of UH beating UT 30-0 in Austin ⊠that would be great. Earl Campbell was injured.
Also UH 10-UT 7 2 years later.
Also if you add any videos like you did for UH vs Michigan St.
Thank you Monceaux!
You can find all of our history articles by year here:
Rice had troughs, now replaced IIRC â Hereâs a dearly departed pal of mine at the 2010 game.
IMHO, nothing could match Robertsonâs âand a Free Saunaâ urinals on a steamy Sep. afternoon. Especially the crickets hopping around, unable to get out of the drain well.
(2011)
I also was at that 1978 game where we kicked Aggie ass 33-0. That game showed why taking scores from previous games donât necessarily tell you whatâs gonna happen. We had opened the season at Memphis State and lost 17-3.
A week or two later, Memphis State went to A&M and lost 58-0. Then the Aggies come to Houston ranked #6 and were thoroughly pummeled by the Cotton-Mouth Cougars!
