Son of Clem?
There are still some decent names. Cal “Big Dumper” Raleigh comes to mind. Nathaniel “Tank” Dell. Kaytron “Fat Man” Allen at Penn State.
You think Cal Raleigh has a good nickname?
Mean Joe Green, Kenny “Snake” Stabler, Night Train Lane, Tommy “The Toe” Davis.
Oh, let’s not forget Broadway Joe Namath.
Yes. It’s fun.
Pitcher Curt Schilling had one of the most misunderstood nicknames. Many people think his nickname “Table for One” was because he was unlikeable, and opinionated, which he is, but in fact, it was a compliment because he often put his teams on his back and wanted to be left alone in high stress situations.
BTW, for you non-baseball fans, Schilling pitched for the Astros, when the Astros still played in the Astrodome.
Lol isn’t he a priest now or something? Hell of a career swing.
Houston beats A&M 36-31 in an ugly game in the Dome
So bad… The Big Dumper… ![]()

My wife and I took her sister to the game with us and she was a big aggie fan since 3 of her 4 kids went to aTm, the other one went to Texas A&I (now Texas A&M Kingsville). She was awful quiet going home.
She was a wonderful person and we lost her to cancer when she was only 60.
I was at that game and often called “The three amigos” with Ed, Kennedy and Blinneberry I believe. Dan Patrick had KSEV and KPRC too (not sure)
Why are you calling him an a-hole? I never heard Ed Fowler going off on U of H.
I can’t remember if you were in school at that time Ryan. Everybody was after us including our own administration as if they wanted to see UH sports forever gone.
Are there any sports writers who aren’t?
You may not like it, but as I remember it, anytime we played aTm or UT in the dome, there were more fans of the opponents than the Coogs, sometimes very lopsided.
