Cougar Pride is in last place

my point is that the average student profile of UH alums that attended UH in the 90s, 2000s and 2010s are not going to be of a donor class.

UH is JUST NOW putting the pieces together for that type of profile to become future donors.

Throughout the decades mentioned, majority of students attended UH to essentially “get in and get out” for a cheap degree.

That’s changing, I would argue.

I know. I also know that it almost takes an almost intentional level of failure to be at 3,000 members right now. There are high school booster clubs with more members.

It seems like that’s changed since at least the Herman years starting in 2015.

This is a situation that we have no one to blame but ourselves.

The best AD, Dr. Khator, Sampson and Fritz cannot just increase membership over night.

If we are still seeing bad attendance for a top 5 basketball team during the early part of the season then that’s on us.

Herman called out the fanbase and we didn’t sell out until the Memphis game in 2015.

You are beating a dead horse.I doubt there is a single person on this site who is happy with our small fanbase

Overnight?

This membership level is probably on par with what it was 20 years ago. The problem isn’t that they haven’t done enough - it’s that they haven’t done anything.

You can take blame, but I won’t. This isn’t on me or anyone else who is or has been a CP member despite the years of underperformance (and occasional incompetence) from the organization.

Maybe it has been a problem of resource allocation, strategy or execution (or all of the above), but this sits squarely on the AD’s plate. They keep trying the same old stuff that hasn’t worked in the past.

This is easier to fix than attendance, and it’s probably more important to the long-term success of athletics. Our AD has to make it a top priority to get this membership up to somewhere in the low-mediocre range or just abandon the effort altogether and quit wasting time on it.

Don’t forget, every football season ticket holder has to pay a donation and thus are cougar pride members. So, since there are 3238 cougar pride members that means that we have no more than 3238 season ticket accounts.

Typically those types of schools have white students of wealthier families who are active in their children’s education

UH not only is a Hispanic-serving institution, but it’s also attended by many first gen college students

Speaking of CP, I saw this today on Allen parkway lol

Come on.

Tbf - they’re on the come up…they bought their way in to a P4 Conference just as their recruiting was among the best in G5.

To top that, they’re making the jump on the heels of an AAC Championship title…

Imagine if we had made the jump to the Big 12 on the heels of a 12-2, AAC runner-up appearance?

I’m sure the excitement would have been more palpable than it is right now.

It’s literally the truth.

Do you expect many first gen college students to donate money to their university? It takes multiple generations for that outcome.

Take a look at SMU.

As a minority first generation graduate, I agree.

Is Baylor missing from that chart? Maybe I am I overlooking something?

Never mind.
…I see the fine printed annotation explaining that.

Seeing some of the crowds we pull, especially before last season, this doesn’t surprise me. Our support in general is abysmal.

Flip side to that graphic is we used to be quite a bit further behind UCF and Cincy. Hopefully we continue to close ground on them and the rest of the league.

Pretty sure that ASU has put forth a ton of effort (and $$$) into trying to reverse that stereotype. And their athletic programs have suffered as they shift their focus on academics rather than athletics (wait, Universities should focus on education??? - the horror!) … They were just admitted to the AAU, someplace we haven’t been yet.

These rankings are with the new four only getting 50% tv revenue, right? If we normalized it up to 100% for compare to others, wonder what rankings would be.

I have to guess many of those 3,238 do not have football season tickets. Don’t know or can guess how many basketball only.

Oh, I don’t like the title to this topic. CP is doing what they can. They are not a last place group. We need a dynamic AD that can get local organizations giving the big $$$ for athletics and NIL…
