Cougar Pride is in last place

UH fund raising is dead last in the big 12. That’s absolutely pathetic. I realize most of the people on this site probably donate what they can but we need way more people involved. Based on the numbers from the Cougar pride mailer we only have 4,843 members in Cougar Pride.

I just want to encourage everyone to actively reach out to other sports fans and especially fellow Alumni and remind them UH is the best value sporting event in the Houston area. I think you can get a football

season ticket to all home games for $100.

On the bright side, we are pretty much on par with the other folks that came from our old conference.
We definitely have to improve and now that we are in a Power conference these numbers (revenue and members) should improve.

Are those fundraising, ie donations, or total revenue?

I think preaching to the choir will solve this problem.

I think that is everything. Total revenue from
subsidy, tickets, donations, and conference/TV
money.

As stated above by the Dentist, we compare well to UC and UCF. Naturally we all would
lag due to lack of full shares. And UC and UCF
have a lot in common with us being the urban
school in a state with established gorillas,

With 4,800 donors, we should have at least
10,000 in season ticket sales as our bottom.

I like the transparency but the thing that stood out is not the small donors but the limited big donors. We need way bigger donors to do anything.

We also need more small donors to get in the game.

I liked page 2 of that report with the words of encouragement from our AD, Chris Pezman.

It will get better with the new coach, affiliations, “rea” conference etc. I actually thought it would be lower!

Hope your right, but there is the Houston Alum
factor that comes into play for Cougar Pride donor numbers. Be interesting to compare the number of Pride donors over the years for Briles, Herman, and others. I’d bet it’s basically a flat line. Now if CWF gets it going, we will have sell outs or near sell outs as the band wagon Houstonians jump onboard.

PS-I don’t want to derail the thread on ROI students, campus mandates, etc yet again.

For comparison SMU just reached 5000 Mustang Club members as of July 1 this year.

The number of CP members is absolutely pathetic.

It has been “a growth opportunity” for 20 years, and I doubt much of that opportunity has been realized.

The reliance on a few donors to carry all of the weight is unsustainable. The failure to grow this org would have been enough for me to change ADs much sooner.

Look at where UH has sat in the realm of college football and academically…

you think it’s going to be able to compete against Big 12 schools?

UH has a long way to go…

Where is all of that Arizona State money going?

This isn’t a matter of “competing against” B12 or any other schools.

When I looked at my CP account a couple of weeks ago, the ranking portion showed that CP had a little more than 3,000 members. No school that has an enrollment of over 30,000 and has been in D1 athletics for as long as we have should have that sorry level of support.

This is a huge failure.

It doesn’t matter who the AD is, college football is second fiddle to pro sports in Houston.

UH is a wait and see if they win before people come out to support.

Look at the Herman and Sampson years and that should tell you everything.

There are UH alums that are Alabama fans… UT fans… I’ve seen it all…

We cannot place any blame on Dr. Khator, Tilman, or the ADs.

Our fanbase has been pathetic for decades and it will get worse in the 2030s when the boomers can no longer attend and support.

Wrong. It’s the AD’s job to make this work. You can say whatever you want about “the fanbase,” but that level of membership shows that they’re either not trying or they really suck at their jobs.

Stop blaming everyone except the people whose jobs it is to get it done. If they can’t, then they should turn it over to someone who can and take the commensurate pay cut.

Keep in mind that I’m not even talking about the LEVEL of support, just the membership. It all starts with the number of members, and there a number of things that could have been done to bring people into the fold. With as many new alumni as we have every year and as many season tickets sold in basketball and football, 3000 members is inexcusable.
