“They wasted no time jumping ahead on the #5 Louisville Cardinals and putting an end to their already fragile playoff hopes.”
How were their CFP hopes fragile? #5 team with two teams ahead them facing off in a couple of weeks? Thought that was a strange assessment of Louisville going into the game.
I think because the writing was on the wall from rankings and previous years how the committee has done things. I wouldn’t call it fragile, but they were in the position to be jumped by Washington if they win their conference, and probably Penn St or Wisconsin if they won the conference. Clemson doesn’t have a tough road ahead and Alabama is a lock even with a loss to Auburn or in the SEC championship game (possibly even with both). Ohio St could easily beat Michigan and not get to the conference championship game, keeping their slot. It would have taken a good amount for Louisville to get in.
