Excelling in academics has been a common theme for Houston under head coach Steve Magness, as the Cougars earned the honor for the third consecutive season. In order to qualify for the team honors, programs must have had at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA while also competing at a NCAA Division I Regional Cross Country meet.
The Houston women sent a full squad to the NCAA South Central Regional in Fayetteville, Ark., where they finished 11th overall. In the classroom, the Cougar women earned a 3.20 cumulative grade point average. The men would send three student-athletes to the regional in November and posted a 3.18 cumulative GPA.
