Court Packing

Will the Democrats try to pack the court?

Try? Yes.

Succeed? No

Great satellite topic? Your team never stops

Because they lost elections to determine Senate composition at key times that prevented them from getting a Supreme Court that looks the way that they would prefer that it look.

They got politically out maneuvered in that regard.

Sucks to be them.

Court packing is going nowhere. It was FDR’s folly…and it remains today’s Lefty folly.

Pack the court?

You mean like not allowing a Democrat a pick in a full year four of a term but allowing a Republican one one month before an election while people are already casting votes?

Is this what you mean?

As I said, that was a dikk move, but one that is more less allowable under our system of checks and balances.

In the end, had the Democrats won elections that would have provided a Senate of a different composition…then maybe they’d have gotten a USSC of a composition they like.

But because they didn’t…oh well!!!

They don’t get to make up for those election losses and overcome checks and balances by packing the court so that it looks the way that they want it to.

After seeing Garland in the DOJ, glad the"moderate" they proposed never made SCOTUS

Please fill us in with some details, Coach. I’m all ears.

Just to jumpstart, are you saying McConnell was fair, duty bound and unpartisan (you know, as we expect the USSC to be) in not allowing a hearing for Garland?

I won’t mention Barrett.

I’m sure he thought he was doing his duty.

Not holding a confirmation was within his power, dikk move though it may have been.

To party, (and donors?) maybe, but certainly not country, precedent, bipartisanship and what goes around comes around.

If they had the votes sure they could. Nothing to stop it constitutionally. Might be unpopular but everyone would get used to it. Everyone in politics can always trust the American people’s short attention span.

One of the few times the GOP didn’t give on to the other side. In retrospect a truly smart move

Bipartisanship? You mean like Obamacare?

Touché, Coach but they (‘Rs’) were invited to the party (small ‘p’, pun was an accident I swear) but they never really came up with anything of their own, did they? That was an interesting vote for all kinds of reasons.

Obamacare would require a long long thread of it’s own though. We could do that :face_with_monocle: if you want. I might even learn something.

Edit: I forgot the main point. The main point was passing a bill by reconciliation isn’t the same thing as confirming USSC Justices. One can be easily undone, the latter not so much.
