Heâs not wrong. It wouldnât take him long to find other employment.
They made the playoff LAST YEAR.
This is what I was trying to tell you guys a few weeks back. People said I was crazy but it is a thing among Clemson fans. They are sort of tired of his whole shtick and they feel like he is not the one to lead them in this new era. I work with and know a lot of big time Clemson alums (Atlanta has a bunch) and I hear it a lot.
Dabo can coach and has the trophies to prove it. This past season he embraced the transfer portal. Give him time. Clemson has a loyal fanbase and they will be a NIL player. They have the ingredients to be successful. The ACC media deal is an issue, but what Clemson lacks in terms of facilities can be built through fund-raising.
I like Dabo. Quality!
100%
Never have like Dabo, but canât believe people are calling for his head. I mean, he has a pretty darn good coaching resume.
Pretty darn good? How about better than any head FB coach in Big 12 history?
Daboâs resume speaks for itself.
What he has not been able to do is replace his great assistant coaches that went on to being poor to average HCâs.
The NIL âeraâ is way over blown. All of the blue bloods have been paying athletes under the table for decades. The difference today is that it is official.
I read a bunch of BS that bama and others wonât be able to competeâŠThese programs sure found a way to compete before. I have no doubt they will again. Prior to Dabo Clemson won a NC in 1981âŠthen they were put on probation.
Does that sound familiar? Yes friends, pay to win NC has existed since day one.
Now we have an NIL limit. ncaa do you really expect us to believe the NIL limit?
You are right, Mike. Many donât realize how awful LSU became in the 70â and 80âs. I remember an article in I think SI that commented on the traffic in their school spirit store. It said you could count the number of Tiger memorabilia sold in a day on one hand.
You are correct. Players were getting paid under the table. The difference the last few years is that schools that would have been put on probation are now legal, Texas Tech & SMU and others. The problem for Clemson, Alabama is the price has gone up.
What will be interesting to watch is with the new NIL rules do you go back to the old system where some schools can do things others cannot without getting put on probation.
If Florida makes a change Dabo would be pursued by The Gators, not to mention lots of other schools looking for a new Coach.
Be careful what you wish for Clemson fans.
I canât believe this comment got 6 likes.
Dabo sounded nothing like Dana. He offered sound perspective and cited very specific examples of his coaching tenure where there were lows before and Clemson was able to bounce back. He didnât attack the media, didnât raise his voice, and was never dismissive of the narrative.
This was a great explanation of perspective and that expectations in todayâs world are most times unrealistic. The line that hit me the most was, âDo you know how many programs would love to be where we are right now?â You got that right.
Iâm not saying Dabo should rest on his laurels, but the problems with being as successful as Clemson was in a 6 year period, comes more scrutiny and are unable to maintain it.
Scottie Scheffler explained it best in this presser about being so good that you say to yourself, âwhat is the point?â It just leads to more criticism.
Yah Dana could never sound that articulate or speak for 15 minutes straight without coughing 100 times.
The Clemson fans are not getting that high that they were getting from 4 years ago.
Simply making CFP appearances or merely reaching the ACC championship (win or lose) is not enough for Clemson fans.
This is why Dabo is getting scrutinized. Nobody denies his record at Clemson, but the problem with refusing to adapt to the Portal/NIL era is what Clemson fans are pointing to for not continuing to compete with the Blue Bloods
Clemson fans want to compete for national championships, and if they arenât getting that, then they want Dabo gone (even if I or anyone else disagrees with this sentiment)
Dabo is a darn good football coach. Point blank. Is he different? Yes. Is there only one mold for success? No. On top of that, by all accounts, he is a really good guy. He bleeds Orange, cares about his players, and doesnât invite issues around lack of standards, character, or morality. Clemson would be astronomically stupid to entertain ANY thought of letting him go.
That depends on what your expectations are.
-
Like I said - Clemson fans feel entitled to continued national championships against the blue blood teams. That means reaching the FINALS and WINNING.
-
For people like myself - I would be happy just to make CFP appearances at all. Winning the entire thing is a bonus.
But because Dabo has previously demonstrated that he made it that far, the entitled Clemson fans have this expectation to keep winning national championships or at the very least reaching the FINAL match. If Clemson fans donât see that reality, then they think Dabo is in decline.
⊠and if you merely look on paper since 2020, Clemson IS on the decline if⊠again⊠the expectations are winning/making it to the national championship.
With losses against LSU (@ home) and Georgia Tech (conference mate) to begin their season, entitled Clemson fans are growing angry
Dabo would kill it at Florida
