Dabo Swinney (Clemson) goes off in press conference

If their fan base actually wants him out then they’re delusional. Who are they actually going to land to replace him? Certainly not an established coach with a championship pedigree. No one’s going to want to take a job with expectations and that high if they aren’t getting resources to justify it.

Well that’s part of the issue that I’m trying to point out to you guys, but you guys keep coming at my neck lol

Problem 1:
Clemson prior to Dabo was average to above average at best, but they were definitely not ELITE.

Dabo made Clemson an ELITE program, but that’s because Dabo is incredibly gifted at developing fresh recruits and culture in the old fashioned way. → the problem is that this type of development is not going to win national championships in the Portal/NIL era (which Dabo is refusing to utilize fully).

Clemson lacks the resources for NIL to match the blue bloods. So you are right in the sense that Clemson will likely never be able to reach the highs they reached without Dabo.

But…

Problem 2:
Which was sort of stated in the above → Dabo is unwilling to utilize the Portal/NIL in the way other schools are such as Oregon or Texas Tech, and this is already affecting the Clemson football program.

Clemson fans think they’re a universal blue blood based on brand alone, and they aren’t. Clemson’s success the last decade and a half was a product of the specific era that it was playing in. The right coach, the right landscape, the right conference (a weak conference).

If Dabo refuses to adapt to the new era, then what makes you think a school like Florida will want to hire Dabo if he’s just going to continue the same coaching philosophy? Now hey… if Florida merely wants to get CFP appearances, then maybe Dabo can do that.

Clemson on the other hand… wants CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Florida would want to hire him because he’d be a massive upgrade over what they have now. Put Dabo at Florida (which has even better resources than Clemson) and he’ll be back top 10 recruiting classes every year.

Also I think you’re majorly overstating Dabos inability to change. Clemson does use NIL. 247 estimates that they were 9th in NIL spending. He hasn’t utilized the portal as much as he probably should but just because he’s been slow to adapt doesn’t mean he won’t eventually. He’s 55, so he’s still got plenty of run way left.

If Kalen DeBoer flames out at Alabama, Dabo may be an option if he wants to leave Clemson. No indication that Dabo wants to leave, but if Alabama comes calling, you have to listen.

Everyone wants championships…but it’s doubtful that Clemson will ever see another national championship (regardless of who their coach is) unless and until some billionaire(s) steps up “Big Time” to fund a highly competitive NIL program. And yes, it’s unlikely that anyone can enforce any kind of limits on recruiting cash payments to a player &/or his family, coach or influencer.

Clemson would be idiotic to get rid of Dabo.
They have been the most consistent team in the ACC since the CFP was established in 2014.

If they can go back to making the playoffs in the 12 team format, then all is well.

He just needs to hope Miami/FSU/SMU don’t become consistent top 10 caliber teams in the next few years.

Clemson’s QB just isn’t a big time dude. He has stars, size but no IT factor. A lot like the Simms kid at Texas

Do you know how many coaches, that are still coaching, that have won more than 2 national championships? Zero, zip doodah. Kirby Smart and Dabo Swinney are the only ones with 2 championships.

I mean, Clemson is to Georgia as OU is to Texas, and it’s not like the Carolinas are exactly devoid of recruits

Plenty of good recruits in the state of Georgia and Florida.
That’s how Dabo recruited Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence.

Most good coaches know when to leave, unless your name is Mike Gundy.

What you don’t want is for that decision to be made for you.

Actually, he would probably rather be fired > bigger payday…

Who is telling you he is not adapting to NIL? You and I have absolutely no clues what is going on inside the Clemson athletics department.
I pointed out that Dabo lost two crucial coordinators. Clemson’s downfall IMO has a lot to do with it. What Dabo has not done is finding adequate replacements for his OC and DC positions. Yes that is his job. For that he can be fully criticized.
Too often fans do not recognize what makes up a coaching staff and how crucial it is to the team’s success. The press/fans will praise a HC. A true HC in the moment of glory will thank and recognize its coaching staff almost immediately after the reaching the pinnacle.

Can’t say I didn’t told ya so

And like I said. The noise is getting louder and the seat is getting hotter.

Lost at home as 18 point favorites to Syracuse. Dabo hasn’t been the same since that dude called into his radio show and rattled Dabo so bad he nearly stroked out. Dabo was a great coach, but now he’s like a reliever who lived off his 1000mph fast ball but now can’t break 92, but thinks he’s still throwing 100mph.

I knew they were overrated last season and didn’t feel they should have been in the playoffs. Looking at that schedule confirms how felt. I have liked what he has done to build Clemson, even surpassing Bama at one point but the mojo seems gone. The supposed offensive genius has not looked great on that side of the ball without the best of the best at qb.

They were the ACC champions last year, so leaving them out would have meant letting in an 11-2 Army team with no wins over ranked opponents, which wasn’t going to happen. If not for an upset of SMU in the ACC Championship, they’d have been out.

Yah they earned their way in. SMU is the one you could’ve debated since they were an at-large.
