Well that wasn’t really my point. We pay the players in an effort to win big. Winning brings prestige, donations and interest from applicants to UH. At least that’s how Pres. Khator portrays it. We’ll soon be receiving $30-50M per year from B12 thanks to athletics. That money no longer has to be subsidized by the school. We can spend the new cash flow on the programs and infrastructure you listed.

Tilman has done SO MUCH for this university that if he does nothing else, he should be respected as UH Royalty.
Regardless of the mistakes he’s made, without Fertitta’s leadership and generosity, we would not be in the Big 12 and would still be playing basketball at Hofheiz Pavillion with an absolutely irrelevant program.
The fact that we still have people on this board willing to criticize him is absolutely IDIOTIC.
I wish our guy, that is worth 100 times more than Portnoy, would step up to the plate.

Folks on here complaining that Tillman is cheap when he’s literally donated enough to have his name on our basketball arena and medical school. It’s a shame that UH doesn’t have as many super wealthy fans as other schools, but that’s why the field needs to be leveled at the NCAA or even government level. Not by staying latched to the “teat” of our biggest donor. In the meantime, alum really gotta show up to the games. Period. Myself included.
