Dave Portnoy

Phil Knight has given over $1b to Oregon. That’s what these big donors do.

Voluntarily.

Arch Manning is getting $3.6MM. I guess old Dave might think about digging a little deeper.

How far back do you think these lawsuits will stretch?

Reggie Bush is just the beginning.

Everyone considers themselves an Aggie it seems like lol. A cult atmosphere for sure

I don’t think Lil Wayne is a UH alumni. Also - Buzbee is an Aggie

Wouldn’t be surprised if the families of deceased players start going after the NCAA plus the schools

Lil Wayne took classes at UH.

Interesting. I just looked it up. I’ve never seen him rep UH though

Buzbee is definitely an alum.

He earned a JD from the University of Houston.

Lil Wayne attended classes but never graduated…just like Tilman Fertitta.

Our NIL collective should have already hit up everyone on that list plus many others that I am missing.

There are SO many successful UH alums in high places around the city and state.

I’m “hoping” I am just repeating what our AD and NIL already know if not, we have BIGGER problems than anyone imagined.

I’m not even joking…Nunez should have this list memorized by now. his job LITERALLY depends on it along with other creative fundraising/ sponsorship/ investment avenues

They probably have. Truth is we don’t know what goes on behind the scenes with regards to this NIL stuff.

He should. I would not be surprised if he reads this board.

yeaaa… but his heart is with Aggie, I’d say.

That UH Law degree is what built his career…not his TAMU degree.

If he was such an Aggie, why didn’t he study Law there…College Station isn’t far from Houston.

Maybe he should have embraced his UH Alum status more. UH alums win Mayoral races…Aggies do not!

A&M didn’t have a law school when he went to law school.

Tilmans well on his way. I think instead of complaining about the one guy that pulls his weight maybe we can work on filling our stadium. If our collective fan support was better maybe we wouldn’t need one rich donor to foot the bill for everything.

We cannot depend on Tilman for everything, even if he has the means.

It’s going to make our donor base very lazy. We need to GROW our donor base.

I don’t care what anyone does but let’s maintain perspective…

If a person with a net worth $9B donated $50M, he is donating .5% of that value.

For a person with a net worth of $1M, the equivalent dollar amount at the same rate is $5K.

I know a lot of people who donate at least $5k annually to UH and it’s very kind of them to do so.

Edit: still processing… I think the reason someone chooses to own and run their own business is to outpace an average rate of return, which it seems like Mr Fertitta has no problem with. That said, assuming he were to cash out all assets and reinvest them into a basic hysa at 4.25%, he would still earn over $38M per year. If he manages to donate just .5% of that income to NIL, that amount would be $190k annually.

That’s the point …we DO have tons of wealthy alums in very influential positions yet few give back.

Why?

Because few feel a genuine family-like connection to the University of Houston like with other public universities.

Hence…my Low vs High ROI student acquisition rants.

We have Nobody to blame but ourselves and unless we drasticslly change the culture at the University of Houston, we will have this problem.

We are a MAJOR public University with 50,000 students yet public schools with HALF of our student body population continue to run circles atound us.

Now …i will say the students have been strong this season…so maybe that is FINALLY starting to change
