Anonymous poll… Do you know all the lyrics to Deep In The Heart of Texas?
Only because of the 7th inning stretch
Gues you didn’t need to ask us how many claps?
Why the Four Claps Matter
Cultural Significance:
For Texans, the four claps are an instinctive and inseparable part of the song’s identity.
Cultural Identifier:
As the phrase itself states, “It’s an instinct, an irresistible response. It’s the natural thing to do. It’s part of the identity”.
A Test of Texas Identity:
On platforms like Reddit and with celebrities like those on Young Sheldon, the practice of four claps is used to distinguish Texans from non-Texans.
Historical Context:
The song’s catchy nature once led to it being temporarily banned by the BBC during World War II, fearing factory workers would abandon their tasks to clap along.
The “Yankee” Question:
Some sources humorously refer to those who clap only three times as “Yankees,” emphasizing the cultural importance of the four-clap response.
Nope as it is instinct, I never considered anything about the claps.
Im gonna guess it is because most american popular music is played in 4/4 and we clap in double time…(during deep in the heart of Texas)
Even if you only clap 3 times, you have to hesitate for the first note not being played. Or since its double time, half of the first note. Any music majors out there free to pitch in
This seems too political to be discussed here.
