Did UH and Architects in the resdesign of Fertitta leave any room for expansion?

Probably 5 years away at the very least (Fertitta Center is kinda new) but that’s good news!!!

Kinda?

BTW - What have we had - 1 year where we didn’t rely on scalpers to sell out the building?

Sampson won’t be here forever. I doubt he makes it to his final contract year (2026-27). I won’t be surprised to read the paper one morning in 2025 or so and see him retire in the summer forcing us to follow through on Kellen.

Wake me up if Kellen continues to win NCAA tournament games. I’ve never seen back to back coaches at UH do that… Maybe he can do it. If so, then we have the type of program that can justify building new basketball arenas every 10-12 years.

What’s your point ? I agreed with everything you just said.

I don’t think that’s quite how it works.

So already betting the under for when CKS retires. :joy:

Just now seeing this. Not sure how many of you actually attended weeknight games but there were lots of empty seats for a sold out arena with a Top 5 team playing.

I really don’t think the demand is quite what some on this board think it is.

Yes the demand is currently there. Those empties are blocks of broker seats they didn’t resell. If the arena held more those same seats would still be empty.
Before last season we released a lot of those broker seats that were not getting filled and our empties reduced by a large amount.
We have vetted some more for this season.

Overall trend is towards smaller bb and fb stadiums so we’re cutting edge. We learned 10k is too much for bb bc in lean yrs it would suck. You only need 5k or so to make bb rock especially in our arena so we’re good in bad or good yrs now. For football, the most I’d expand to is 50k and stop. A lot of p5 teams are reducing capacity in football.

You can recruit well and win a nat championship in a 40k fb or 7k bb arena. Our 40k stadium can be 44k standing room only and bb can add more standing room only.

Laws of diminishing returns going to 80 k etc bc 40k sold out is plenty enough or when the bb arena is sold old.

Bb is ok but fb needs to sell that upper deck out or make the ticket prices dirt cheap.

I studied business and history and remembered this. Lol so it applies to UH seating capacity.

We can win a natty in bb and fb with our current capacity.

Well Kellen is not other coaches.

Not only do I expect the program to continue its winning ways but I think there is a strong chance Kellen takes it up a notch.

IMO recruiting might even experience an uptick.

Yes, I think Kellen is going to take it to the next level.

I think so… He’s younger and loves to recruit. He kinda reminds me of Jon Scheyer as coach. People will question him at first but I think he’ll be solid or that’s what im hoping for lol.

I agree with this. My hope is that by the time Kellen takes over, we will have more donors jump on board with NIL money that can be offered to recruits.

I like having season tickets sold out each year with a waiting list. I like have SRO for all games. You forget the days when the Hoff was like an empty tomb on game days. When Kansas comes to town, you will be glad Fertitta is sold out with UH fans. Let’s enjoy what we have with sell outs and winning seasons, once we are fully vested in B12 money we can see what the future holds.

This would look awesome. Imagine the bucks to add a second deck above student side, though.

That’s true but UH is leaving money on the table if the demand is high.

And if and when we hit dark times again, the Sampson’s won’t be here forever, but I hope so, and we get a dud equivalent of Holgorsen on the basketball side, the place will be empty again and all that money spent?

First of all that’s not even possible without an obscene amount of funds but it’s a nice design.
