Discussion: Shiel Wood accepts Texas Tech DC job

I am interested in the backstory on why ended up not being on the staff originally like what was reported. Did he think he’d be in the running for the Tulane HC gig? Did he not want to leave Louisiana? Curious.

@monceaux why did my thread get deleted? Was this one up before mine? If it was sorry for the inconvenience.

I want to think Wood respects Fritz enough not to poach roster players. Refreshing.

Everything I’ve read says money. TT has more money through donors and more overall resources than almost anyone else in the conference.

But I think Wood leaving says more about UH than TT if they offered more than UH was willing to pay. When you have a DC improve the D as much as Wood did you generally pay whatever it takes to keep them but TT could just have a donor step up to add more to the coffers. For whatever reason they have multiple of their own Fertittas to step in when they need it hence the 250M football thing they are building.

Nobody wants to lose a good coach, Shiel apprenticed under Willie for 2 yrs. He learned at the knee of the master. I’m quite sure CWF has got a rolodex of other good grasshopper’s.

Wood is no longer with U of H. Time to move on.
The fact that we are on a “budget” is a stark reminder to everyone how “fragile” our program is. We are just a couple of years removed from the AAC. Every U of H business figure (if they have not already) local or far ought to be reminded of what they could do for U of H.

Tillman killed attendance by hiring Holgi. He can threaten alumni all he wants, but they aren’t coming to see a losing product.
