Divisions?

Ya the Kansas schools dont work as permanent rivals for you guys unfortunately. The thing is I’m ignoring the geography for the most part two but it just so happens that the big rivalries are a thing because of geography so you can’t really just ignore it. Im generating a schedule around rivalries and maximizing TV revenue and arizona being permanent rivals with any of the Kansas schools doesn’t work as it would require breaking other big rivalries that they already have.

I thought due yo highway connection ISU and Colorado would be a good one

We hear you and that would suck for us but it’s the unfortunate price to pay for joining an already existing conference and being the new guys. I’d like to think that Houston is going to have a little stronger of a voice than y’all will by 2024 but who knows.

I think either way everyone outside of Texas gets a chance to play in Texas at least 1x a year.

Right, Arizona fans need the rich history of UH disrespect… we gonna get placed in that pod for the memes

The hateful 8 will have the strongest voice in the room and the G5s will get in line with whatever they want.

Something tells me the G5 could join with the other expansion teams and their voice would be equal to the 8.

Even though i hear san diego is awesome

A second version of rivals I was playing with. Edited the UofA some for Tech. If UofA really did not have a problem with cross country, Cincy and WVU would be some of the more historical basketball programs in the conference. Ok St and K St are no slouches either.

Rivals Version 2:
UH - Tech, BU, UCF
Tech - UH, TCU, UofA
TCU - Tech, BU, Utah
BU - UH, TCU, BYU
Az - Az St, Ok St, Tech
Az St - UofA, ISU, BYU
Utah - BYU, Col, TCU
BYU - Utah, BU, Az St
Col - Utah, ISU, K St
Ok St - Kan, ISU, UofA
Kan - Ok St, K St, Cincy
K St - Kan, Col, WVU
ISU - Col, Ok St, Az St
Cincy - WVU, UCF, Kan
WVU - Cincy, K St, UCF
UCF - UH, Cincy, WVU

I’d love for Cincinnati rivalry, plus Sean Miller was an Xavier guy when he came and clearly is now again and many of us still root for him, so, there’s some peripheral angst in that matchup. But I like Iowa State, too. Still think Conference must matchup KU and Arizona 2x a year. It’s your signature basketball brands and there’s history, including some epic tournament play.

Well basketball is different this would be purely for football. Basketball you could easily play every team twice in a single season.

Tell me how do you like that for a 4 year schedule? (The “h” next to each team designates home and the “a” away.) I think this does a good job of preserving Arizona’s big rivalries while giving good exposure to both games in Texas and with Texas teams.

Under my idea U of A would play ASU and Utah every year, then either Colorado or Tech.

Then they play 6 more for 2 years, then the other 6.

UA would come to Texas every season, to play one or more of the 4 Texas schools.

This all seems relatively simple to me. Each School could submit their 3 rivals to Yormark’s office. Go from there. The problem is with UCF, which has no natural rivals other than Cincy and UH due to AAC affiliation.

This can be worked out. At a minimum we should end the season over Thanksgiving weekend with traditional rivals squaring off. Examples would be U of A vs ASU, BYU vs Utah, Kansas vs K State, etc.

If anything UH, UCF and TCU would be the ones that rotate the most so all the schools have a fair shot at recruiting the Houston and Dallas area as well as Florida.

Based on our UofA guest, I think the Tech matchup over Colorado. I like having each school submit their preferences then go from there. Also I do hope there is a rivalry week at the end.

Good list start. Question on the rotations. Do you think it is best to have all the longest distance in the same two years? Travel from Tucson to Cincy and Morgantown in the same season seems like torture. Maybe swap Colorado for the Cincy trips.

Look I’m just trying to make a working schedule dangit! No more complaints from you sir or I’m sending you to the pit of misery. DILLY DILLY!

But ya that’s a good complaint. However even if I modified it you would still eventually get that schedule. At least according to chat GPT.

So the problem Im running into is ALOT of teams primary preferences overlap. This is causing a massive scheduling headache. And it actually makes it worse if you split up the Texas teams vs keeping them together ironically. And even more ironically UH is causing the most headaches scheduling wise. Because UH’s to primary rivals would have to be Texas teams. Otherwise UH need to be prepared to play only one Texas team every year and at home every 2 years.

That’s some good work, aside from the specific pod. I have zero desire to play BYU and Utah every year. There’s no rivalry or tradition there. I’ll take one, but not both. Same deal with Colorado.

Ideally, somehow Tech, ASU, Arizona are in a pod.

I’m not trying to disrupt or throw elbows. But it’s already a new conference, so why not actually create new beginnings? Each pod should be 2 geographic and one non-geographic so it creates new opportunities.
