There i was living in 90s and 2000s thinking 20 wins was a good season.
Such was life before AI
will never take a 20 win season for granted because I remember all to well what a 20 loss season was like.
Don’t get me wrong, I do
appreciate 20-game wins and don’t take them for granted, but Coach has set the bar much higher and nowadays 30-wins is the “new” 20-wins ![]()
I meant in a freshman sense
20 wins is a great milestone no matter which way you cut it, but Sampson has raised this program enough that expectations are much higher. IMO, anything short of an ‘Elite 8’ spot would be a disappointment.
Let’s not kid ourselves, if CKS isn’t provided with a competitive NIL support program, then this exceptional run we’ve been on may soon be over, and these inflated expectations I’m reading about on here may soon become broken dreams. Just a reality check.
My guess that the real NIL work occurs on the phone between Coach Sampson and BMDs. The BMDs want Sampson to explain why a big time player needs such a rich UH NIL. They want as much competitive intel as Sampson has, so that UH does not have to overpay. Sampson makes his sales pitch and the BMD says yes or no.
Sampson can bring the recruit to UH, tell him the plan for him, talk about the family atmosphere and culture, but at the end of the day, with the amounts the big stars are commanding, money is a huge factor. Keep in mind this money is separate from the revenue sharing money the athlete will be receiving.
Well OK… Focus on what you believe UH cannot do if that makes you happy.
I myself think this basketball team may be one of Sampson’s best ever.
