Early expectations

Your expectation - a year out without knowing who UH has on the roster - is to go 4-1 at Kansas State, Texas Tech, Utah, WVU, and Colorado?

yes
we lose to Texas Tech or Utah but neither are Ohio State.

Why?..we are bringing in one of our best recruiting classes in years and our NIL will be ramping up leading up top the 2027 season.

Whether you like it , or not, we are a top 15% program in the Big 12 and I plan for us to be in contention for the Big 12 championship every year moving forward.

75% of the Big 12 will not be able to keep up with out NIL resources.

Go back and look at my prediction for this season- I said 8 wins was the FLOOR and we now have a chance to end with double digit wins and finished the season ranked #21

I already said, it’s too early. There’s too many unknowns for “expectations”. Now, if we’re talking “hopes and desires”, I would say 17-0. But the ceiling is just unimaginable, at the point.

I already said, my “floor” is 8-4, because with the players we have, and have signed, with this coaching staff, I just don’t see less than that
.

So
. No. I am not “okay with 6-6. Nor have I said that

No sense speculating now when we dont know who might leave, and who we are going to get in the portal in January. Ask this question next year in late January.

Or ask after Spring ball, when the roster is more solidified and we have a better idea of how the new players fit in to the depth chart

I waited until Fall Camp to ask this question (create a thread) for this season (2025)

To be clear.

I’m not against anyone

  1. Starting a thread.
  2. Having an opinion.
  3. Disagreeing on anything.

The only thing I’m against is putting words in other’s mouths and then arguing about someone else’s opinion when it was never their opinion in the first place

My only expectation is that

If you ask a question, don’t tell people how they should answer.

It appears the majority of folks believe it’s way too early to be able to answer your question the way you want it answered

Sorry for chatting on a message board.

But if we have a bad spring and a bad portal, is it ok to set expectations to 5 or 6 wins?

Yes, though if our spring is really that bad I’m holding that against Willie.

With Portal, NIL, who knows more than 50-60 percent of your team for the next year and that doesn’t even consider assistant coach poaching. I’ll wait until there’s a known roster to even start thinking about my prediction.

With revenue sharing nearing there’s bound to be contracts in place that keep players from constantly moving around. They’re not students anymore, they’re semi-pros.

  1. Already addressed everyone’s right to their opinion, so don’t start out using sarcasm to infer I am trying to “mute” you.
  2. Already said my floor was 8 wins.
  3. We won’t have a bad portal and a bad Spring.

Sounds like “you” have low expectations.

You’re the only one on here, so far, talking about even the possibility of getting only 5 or 6 wins. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

In the meantime, set your expectations wherever you want

What even conduces a bad Spring? Injuries, bad/canceled practices, toxic position battles?

Good questions

I think too many people hit the “Reply” button and don’t, in fact
 “Reply”.

Instead, they “Respond”

When you reply, you’re having a discussion.

When you respond, you’re participating in an “argument”

Pardon me, busy with IRL things.

Online etiquette is a whole other issue, but knowing Willie, I agree we won’t have a bad spring or portal.

We are coming to end of the portal. Looks like we have some solid additions and didn’t lose anyone that is truly impactful to the portal.

We ended the season beating LSU in the Texas bowl, and ranked in the top 25 in both polls with a 10 win season.

So if we don’t win 10 games next year? Truly contend for the big 12 title? Playoff?

What if we go 8-4 or 9-3?

Well
.

First off, there’s a misconception about the portal.

It’s closed to “enter” it, but it’s not closed to “exit “ it.

In other words, there are hundreds of players still available.

That said, I don’t think the Ccogs will add more than 2-3 more
. Max.

But, since this thread is about expectations

as I said last month, it’s still way too early to tell.

My floor last year was 7-6 (if CW didn’t work out and/or the Coogs got bit by the injury bug)

My ceiling was 10-3 (nailed it).

As for the 2026 season

I have already gone on record saying I expect improvement. So my floor is 8-5.

We got the right pieces of the puzzle in the portal. Provided they work out like last years class and some of the Coog’s HS Recruits from the past couple of classes progress, I believe this team has the “potential” to Win 10 again
. Maybe more.

Just too early to tell.

I won’t be putting a ceiling on it any time soon

We have a lot of redshirt freshmen returning as well as the incoming true freshmen. I really don’t expect much from most of them this soon; but there are a few that may end up stating right off. I don’t expect a lot from RF OL and DL until about their RF soph years at least.

Some will develop faster than others, but I think we will have a lot of eventual contributors from these classes. As the process keeps rolling year after year, I hope to get to a point where we don’t need too much from the portal.
