Tough call.
Sharp is kinda my favorite but not in terms of empirical data. I like his smile and concern for his teammates, his humanity and character. He has been a favorite from the start but is my favorite player this year.
Shead is incredible and though he has surpassed what i hoped he would be, he was already the kind of player who would excel. I think he is player of the year.
Roberts has kept us in so many games and like Shead, had their solid performance and expectations edtablished. He will show out more and is a player like Shead who finds ways to contribute.
I did not expect Francis to make the progress with athleticism and agility to make good use of his physical makeup. He did. It was a huge leap, imo and the really great thimg is how much further he will improve under CKS.
In sum, were i to decide for the program it would be Francis. The rest, imo, were only at a disadvantage because they have shown their abilities earlier. Francis’ glory time is still in front of him.
“Most improved” is a sticky term. Most of our players are really good and were really good last year. Shead, Roberts, Sharp, et. al. have sustained a high level of play so it’s difficult to say they’ve improved. Francis is hands down the guy that watching games one says “who the hell is that guy?”. Francis has gone from a part time contributor to a flat out force.
And you pull the same crap as another poster on this site……even when you are flat out wrong you double and triple down on your own BS.
You start using things taken out of context, you change things that were said to fit your BS agenda.
You may fool a lot a people on this site and that’s fine.
But Pesik have you ever bounced a ball?, played the game? Coached?
Or just sat behind a computer your entire life and looked at stats?
It’s okay, that’s your thing, I get it….but I have yet to EVER see you even consider someone else that has a take different than yours.
I will 100% admit that’s not my strong suit, but when I can tell another poster knows the game be it basketball, football, baseball, etc. I do consider their opinions and I damn sure admit when I’m wrong.
You on the other hand have never been wrong about anything……I guarantee you CKS could come on here with an alias, find fault in something you said or disagree with you and you would do the same thing you do with everyone.
So by all means, continue with the look in this hand routine……but I see through you Pesik……just like everyone on the old AAC site did.
No one would even talk to you, they called you “Coach Pesik” and it wasn’t in a good way….you did the same thing but even worse.
I don’t dislike you Pesik.
Some of the stuff you say is legit….maybe over the top sometimes but still good.
But it ain’t all good bud….no one on here has a 100% great takes.
Francis had about a 2 minute stretch at the end of the first half against Cincinnati where he single handedly tried to win our Most Improved Player Poll.
Because Seth Davi’s said Jamal was a GD “glue guy” it’s gospel……and what’s dumber, is that you take it as that’s ALL he meant he was….nobody with any common sense though Shead was ONLY a glue guy….that is a term for someone that is not necessarily good at one thing or with great skill but someone that keeps the team together.
Since you believe Seth David at his word, and clearly don’t believe he had a higher opinion of him than just that……well then you are saying that is YOUR opinion as well.
You might want to chill with calling other peoples takes “terrible” if that’s your opinion which it is….
we are both former coaches, so itd be interesting to see who actually knows more…i feel confident in my bball knowledge over you as youve never once broken down basketball theory here once in years… but you might just not like talking about that stuff here… so it might be a toss in real life, who knows,
And no, I have no desire to get deep in statistics but I can talk X’s and O’s All day long and what I run in what situations….just doesn’t interest me.
Just like it took me years to be able to watch a football game like a fan rather than a coach…
also this isnt even true im still friends with a ton of people on the aac forum, i popped in the other day to give congrats to usf for the crazy turnaround and like 9 dms asking to keep posting there (i started the post with “its weird to post here still but…”), there was a vocal minortiy who didnt like me but i was cool with the overwhelming majority… what i thought was odd is one of the people who dm’d me to keep posting there ws someone who i assumed didnt like me
To me, the question is a bit ambiguous . . . . .
M.ost improved this year, based on career . . . . . Sharp
Most improved this year, from last year to this . . Roberts
Most improved this year, from Nov. to now . . . . Francis
Most improved this year due to publicity . . . . . Shead
Shead has, IMHO, been fantastic ever since he stepped on campus. I remember hearing somewhere that even prior to him becoming a starter, at least one opposing coach said that when Shead entered the game, the defensive game plan had to change.
Hence, I split my vote into quarters . . . . . the have ALL improved tremendously . . . . .
lol i wasnt annoyed, i just gave my take, if anything its people coming at me for having a different take
but i do think both topic connect… i think the disconnect is the loved perception of shead…becuase he is loved alot of people here perceive him as great at everything
3 weeks ago i noted sharp and cryer are our only elite top tier shooters… and some got heated and debated with me that shead is an elite top tier shooter … the other thread i noted dejon, mills (and others) etc. were amazing iso scorers likely better than anyone on roster… people got heated that shead is a better iso scorer than all of them…
the disconnect is any improvement he makes isnt seen as improvement because he was always seen that why by our diehards
if shead came back next year and improved to be an elite shooter (4.5 3s at 42%) and became an elite iso scorer, just scoring at will, on anyone even elite defenders… many folks here wouldnt see it as improvement but that just being who he always was , while id note the improvement
also i dont get why my take is controversial… no honest realistic evaluator of shead would have had him in the national player of the year conversation preseason… francis improvement was well within the possibility of realistic improvements for him…i get why he is getting votes, when people say most improved they gravitate to “went from bad to good”…but for me i think growth regardless of starting point, i think its shead
