Ever been to the funeral museum in Houston?

Season 3 Nbc GIF by The Office

Bobby Waltrip took a single family funeral home in the Heights and turned it into a billion dollar funeral home company called SCI. He grew up in the Heights and was best friends with a mentor of mine. Brilliant business mind.

He started the museum years ago.

I am familiar with SCI and that it was a Houston company but not familiar with the founder or anything. I do know we also have a College in Houston for funerary studies.

Would this be the Heights Funeral Home on Heights Blvd or a different location ?

Seen the sign for it off of 1960 many times, but always thought it would be a
bit too creepy. I have visions of embalming tools and instruments and embalming rooms, freezers, and warming tables…Maybe some Halloween season the following year I’ll go. I’ve often wondered how popular it really is. I’d think it’s not high on many peoples list…am I dead wrong ?

Yes. I think it was originally the Waltrip Funeral Home

Yes! Totally awesome, too. There are a lot of interesting hearses, including a sled used in frozen climes. There’s also a big exhibit dedicated to St. John Paul II which includes details about the burial of pontiffs. If you’re interested in the history of embalming which goes back to Egyptian mummification, they’ve got that covered.

It’s probably not something for the kids, but who knows? The missus and I enjoyed it immensely.
