From a player’s perspective, the whole purpose of the Shrine Bowl is to gain exposure. That’s what Tune seeks – exposure. He’s not giving up the opportunity that a bowl game provides to show what he can do on the field.
Good Tune can definitely get drafted. He is very accurate with his passes, strong enough to take contact and escape, and mobile.
As long as Bad Tune, who is indecisive, holds the ball too long, and misses wide open receivers, doesn’t show up. He will be fine.
He also exposes himself to injury in the bowl game that means nothing…
Tune will get a shot in the NFL… Kyle Allen is still playing in the NFL…
Allen plays for the Texans. Technically, that is the NFL, but …
He’s been in the NFL for like 5 or 6 seasons… Right?
Tune will be in a camp next season and at least on a practice squad roster next season.
Seems highly unlikely to me that he would sign on to play in the Shrine Bowl but refuse to play in the Independence Bowl. The incentives (exposure, love of the game, etc) are pretty similar and if anything favor the Independence Bowl. (Or Military Bowl or whatever.)
Grant Stuard played in the Senior Bowl and still skipped our bowl game.
Huh. Didn’t know that! So I guess it’s something to keep an eye on.
Tune’s decision is a personal one, but it boils down to loyalty to school and teammates vs. professional career.
If I was advising Tune, and I’m not, I would suggest he get a permanent total disability policy, with a loss of value rider. This will reduce any protentional financial impact from injury from a bowl game(s). Once that is in place, go out and have fun and play some ball.
Here is some information from the NCAA:
Tune plays the bowl game. That’s who he is.
Wasn’t Stuard nursing injuries the entire season?
As for 2023 it would seem to be better for our Program for Coley to play in our Bowl Game. Gives him real practice time vs a real opponent.
However, given where Dana sits with our fan base it might be better for him, and for recruiting, to win the Bowl Game. Thus Tune plays.
You dance with the one who brought ya.
Tune plays.
I think it’ll be Tune’s call, and if he wants to play, he’ll be on the field. Dana has tremendous respect for Tune and will let him decide whether to lead the team from the field or the sideline.
An Aggie quoting Darrell Royal? Oh, the horror!
We will get a transfer QB no matter what, but Coley will have ever chance to prove he’s the guy. Nobody can say he is or isn’t right now. All we know is we are losing Tune and Ike so we will need to add a QB. Coley and said QB will battle it out. I don’t like Dana as much as the next guy but I think we can all trust his ability to spot a good QB. The is one problem he has not had in his career.
I don’t understand the angst and consternation regarding the QB position next year. There will be a competition between Spring and Pre-Season practices, and the best player will get the start. If it is Lucas Coley, then great. It means he won it.
I think most people want Coley to have a little stiffer competition to win the job than what he is facing now.
How do we know just how good his current competition is or isn’t, or how good incoming HS recruit McMickle is until we can actually see them play in meaningful minutes.
