I have a nephew who plays high school soccer. I watched the second half of his game yesterday. His little sister plays 8th grade b team basketball… her games are way more exciting and entertaining.
A few years ago San Antonio Lee HS won 6A state soccer title……they were extremely well coached and highly entertaining to watch.
They were also ranked #1 in the country by those who make the polls.
One of my nephews went to college on a soccer scholly. Became a soccer coach at a Jr. College. Father in law put him in the insurance business and he’s traveling the world now.

I have played and coached soccer for decades here in America. The game has grown exponentially. Technically and tactically American players have never played any better. For the U.S. National Team the main concern that I have is a lack of fighting spirit. I was around the U.S. and MLS teams in the 90’s and early 2000’s. They had a great fighting spirit. It takes time, decades to achieve both. Coaching is better all around especially with the Latin American coaches. The days of mainly UK coaches are still here but the coaching community has greatly expanded its “horizon”
I think MLS has helped grow the game for sure….but future National team players need to go to Europe and get better coaching and play against better competition.
