Back in the day we got school off on Feb 12 (Lincoln’s Birthday) and Feb 22 (Washington’s Birthday)
When the powers to be wanted to give a holiday for MLK and not increase the number of paid holidays, they chose to combine Washington & Lincoln into the innocuous “President’s Day”.
For a century America considered Washington and Lincoln as the most singularly important Presidents in our history. Now? They are just lumped together with Carter and Hoover.
i’m down with eliminating all holidays. if george and abe aren’t worth their own days, but juneteenth is a national holiday; a event i never heard of until 5 years ago; what’s the point of any holiday ?
just give an additional 5 days over normal vacation and you can use them for christmas or goerge or juneteenth if you wish. dont make me observe your holdays and you dont have to observe mine.
I had Monday off,
While Lincoln’s actual birthday is February 12, California schools often observe the holiday on the Monday before
in observance of Lincoln’s Day. This holiday honors President Abraham Lincoln, recognized for his leadership during the Civil War and his role in ending slavery. It is a day to reflect on his legacy of equality, unity, and justice.
Presidents’ Day: Note that the following Monday, February 16, 2026, is Presidents’ Day, which is a separate holiday.
Ohh the outrage of feelings over reality

I didn’t realize there were separate holidays based on what, the color of people’s skin?
The irony is you’re just showing ignorance of history, because Honest Abe freed the slaves, and Juneteenth celebrates the day the last black Americans were freed, some 2 months after the war ended. And it happened in Galveston, Texas, where the slaves were not informed of their freedom until federal troops enforced the Emancipation Proclamation. It’s the longest celebrated black holiday in America.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t see a problem celebrating the day that ALL Americans were truly declared free from the evils of slavery.
I always said the Union was to kind to the South afterwards. Should’ve buried Dixie forever right then and there.
But yeah it’s definitely not a deal breaker for some folks

I agree.
The whole narative romanticizing of the confederacy that was allowed to flourish should never had happen.
It used to be that racism was a deal breaker for candidates and Americans. Now for a segment of people it is becoming part of their identity again they can openly share with others.
Public identity, it never went away. But for a solid amount of time unless you were a racist grandpa you kept that shite to yourself.
