Fire Willie Fritz

Who’s important up there?

Hindsight is always 20/20, but Applewhite did get the short end of the stick. Who knows what happens if him and Ed Oliver don’t get into the very visible confrontation over a jacket, and the players don’t open a huge can of quit in the bowl game against Army. By no means am I saying that things would be better if he stayed around, because he certainly had his issues with football philosophy. But he has rebounded and become a head coach again, and is still pretty young in terms of coaching careers.

The years before Applewhite led to everyone involved with the program having overinflated expectations. “We’ll fire coaches at 8 and 4” has aged terribly. And look at how this last decade has unfolded. What a mess.

27-7. Exact same result on the venue’s 10-year anniversary.

Incredible

You joke, but Barbay and Bell should be on a short leash. I wasn’t impressed with those hires to begin with. MS State and Baylor fans didn’t have good things to say about them, and the offense as it stands looks awful.

I know this post is being facetious, however I have always questioned the wisdom of any UH coach believing that we could run a “Run dominated” stuff it down your throat offense. In all the years I have followed UH football (going on 36 years), that approach has never worked.

I am going to give CWF some time but I was upfront from the beginning that I was not a fan of the hire and thought we should have went another direction. I feel like they are trying to do to the football team what CKS did with basketball; however different sports with different requirements, so not the same. You can run a basketball program with 5-7 talented hard working guys and change the fortunes rather quickly, but a football team requires a system, a program and a method that must be instilled into each player at each position. It’s like the difference between a small corporation/startup and a F500.

Agree. Applewhite was a victim of Tilman’s ego and politics. He fired Applewhite to hire his buddy, Dana.

How did he get the short end of the stick when he should have never been hired in the first place?

Barbary and Bell look like bad decisions by Fritz and he is too experienced to be making bad decisions.

Applewhite was as much a beneficiary of Tilman’s ego and politics as anything else. Tilman got his ego burnt when Herman left and publicly went on the warpath stomping up and down about how he wanted a coach who wouldn’t leave us and their contract would be structured to prevent that. Dude was dialing into radio shows talking about how much he liked that Applewhite seemed like he wanted to be here.

Tilman’s ego is why our football program is in the toilet right now.

But he did get us into the P4.

Well our fanbase is poor, we are bleeding money on football, if Fritz can’t turn it around in 3-4 years maybe we should give football up? Never hav had a rabid fanbase like other schools to be unnamed lol, have had some success over the decades but mediocre most of the time, maybe U of H football just ain’t gonna fly in our pro sports town, it seems most of the city doesn’t care, maybe we should just be a baseball school and call it a day?

Have there been any good times since Herman left? Talking 7 years now. Lol

Our fan base isn’t poor. And no way should we give up.

Every single revenue metric says otherwise, especially relative to P4 competition.

Really? 25K, 7 K of which was free tickets given to students? I’ve been watching Uof H football since Yeoman we don’t draw crowds we are in a city of 6 million people lol

You’re blaming Tillman dude? Really??? There is zero logic running thru the mind of someone blaming Tillman.

Ahh. Yes. I forgot it was someone else that hired Applewhite and Dana. My mistake.

Oh. And then I forgot it was someone else that gave Dana an “impossible buyout”. Dana’s words. That we now have to pay up on. All while we are not collecting full shares from the Big 12. We’re paying two coaches right now. Tilman has done good.

Our Brain Trust could have hired Fritz, or Kiffin, in 2017.

Instead they gave us 7 years of Applewhite and Dana.

Our Brain Trust does not know how to manage a Football Program.

We will be dead last in Big 12 attendance and struggle to win more than 1 game.

This is a serious problem. Hopefully we lucked out with Fritz and our new A.D.
