First Texas State, Now Sam Houston?

2012 Robertson Stadium, Texas State Bobcats played their first game as a FBS team. Beat UH 30-13 for their first FBS win.

2023 Sam Houston is now in their first season as a FBS team. They are 0-2 after playing BYU (3-0) and Air Force (3-0).BYU won 14-0 and Air Force won 17-3.

Can UH do it again and give Sam Houston their first FBS win against a FBS opponent like they did for Texas State?

If this happens, UH will have completed an awful trifecta.

  • Loss to Rice in double OT.

  • Lost first ever BIG12 game to TCU and must wait until the TT game to attempt to get the first ever Offensive TD in a BIG12 game.

  • Lose to Sam Houston and give them their first FBS win against an FBS opponent.

This should be bulletin board material for UH. This should be something that no player would want to be a part of.

Please God. No.

Wasn’t UTSA beating us their first year in the fbs along with their first fbs win in 2014 too?

We’ll play Texas Tech before West Virginia, so hopefully we can get an offensive TD then…or maybe we’ll just be offensive.

I think your liklihood of achieving an offensive TD in a Big 12 game will be slightly better against Texas Tech than WVU but both games will probably see Houston offensive TDs. The WVU defense is pretty decent on the front 7 and they HAVE TO BE! The WVU secondary is suspect. To be successful defensively WVU needs to stuff the running game and get consistent pressure on your QB so the recievers do not have time to get open…if you protect your QB youll no doubt get an offensive TD on Oct 12th. I still think you’ll get one or more against Tech though.

There is no way, just absolutely no way we lose to this team. RIGHT?!

Probably a slug fest and def wins

UTSA was in the CUSA in 2013 and defeated several FBS teams. They finished the season with a 7-5 record.

2014 is historic because it was UH’s first game in TDECU and UTSA won 27-7.

No. UTSA’s first year of FBS was 2012. New Mexico State was their first true FBS win.

Texas State was essentially an FCS loss because most of those players were recruited for FCS ball.

If this happens, is a coaching change made during the bye week?

I think they will for sure score their first fbs td against us.

Houston is a soft team, mentally and physically. Slap us in the mouth and we become discombobulated. Rice pushed us around. TCU sat on us. Sam Houston knows how to beat soft teams.

It still blows my mind that Sam is Division 1, or fbs. My first year of college, I went to Texas A&I. We were NAIA, and in a conference with Sam Houston, Southwest Texas, Angelo, Abilene Christian, SFA, East Texas, and Howard Payne. The Cougars were SWC champions that year.

I first noticed coach Sampson on the sidelines right after the 3rd and 4th down failures to pick up a yard. I wondered what was going through his head. Toughness is at the core of his culture.

What we should do is kick field goals if in range vs going for 4th and 1 or 2. Get the pts in hand as much as we can with this offense. Again we could have beaten rice and avoided a utsa nail bitter.

Sam has a very legit defense. Old, mature, and aggressive. Play lots of press man coverage, they show pressure and drop and bring pressure from somewhere else. Will be a very big test for our QB and Oline.

We have been pretty bad so far this year but I think we beat SHSU. Hopefully at least. These boards will LIGHT up if we don’t…
