The Texas college team that has almost the most money in the universe, second only to you-know-who, debuted their desert camouflage unis for the Arkansas game. Do they need the merch money? Yes, to keep competitive. Texas A&M has a strong tradition, but they have no problem breaking out the alternative unis.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but thatās just flat ugly.
Thats an ugly ass uniform.
To me this is more of a one game theme to honor our military and A&M has a long miltary tradition so it makes sense. It is not a confusing brand new color line scheme they are presenting. It more akin to a black out jersey for Halloween or the Space Game unis UCF wears. We are wearing Columbia blue just for the sake of wearing blue. There is no real meaning or connection behind it and I donāt buy the honoring the Oilers, old Houston police cars, old street tiles or the city flag. I also donāt care when our teams regularly wear black either. Save the black for the occasional Halloween home game.
Iām proud old school and prefer our teams to regularily wear the scarlet and white. Red is all Iāll wear to the games.
I would say they are butt ugly, but that would be an insult to ugly butts.
TAMU is copying a page out of the NFL, with the Salute to Service campaign, where teams offer apparel in camo style.
They also have a black jersey.
We were taking a page out of the MLB, NFL and NBA playbook, they have all had wild success using unique alternative uniforms that tie to their cities, they have generated tons of excitement and money. The storied Boston Red Soxās have a yellow uniform. The Rocketās even wore H-Town jerseys that are very close to our own Phi Slama Jama jerseys complete with Drexler and Olajuwonās name embroidered on them.
The blue has been wildly successful and has driven merch sales, I would not be shocked if in a few years they change it up again.
Our Houston Blue jerseys are dope.
Alternate uniforms at Texas A&M isnāt something new. Theyāve use a lot of combinations with black, dark gray, throwbacks, and various jersey patterns for a while now.
Thatās pretty common for ALL schools, including wealthy blue bloods, in order to keep the money train moving forward.
My chief complaint with the Houston blue uniforms is less about alternate uniforms and more with the color scheme that looks like the Houston Oilers. I realize thereās a history of Houston blue that goes beyond the Oilers, but thereās no denying the similarities with the two uniforms. I was never a big fan of the Houston Oilers and I always associated those teams with a history of losing big games and an owner in Bud Adams that gave the city of Houston the middle finger.
Personally, I think alternate uniforms are great way of selling merch and bringing in more money. The dark gray and red striped uniforms used in the Louisville game at TDECU back in 2015 were awesome. Black uniforms are fine too, but anything that looks like TT makes me want to vomit. Charcoal black with red, cool. All red, cool. All white, fine. I just donāt care to look at uniforms that remind me of the Oilers. To each his own, I guess, but youāll never see me wearing baby blue, regardless of whether it brings in extra money.
Still donāt like that color I like our school colors and variations of that
I donāt get it, why did they just put a bunch of patches on the ground? And why is that sticker floating?
I donāt do dope either.
Aggie is a historical military school. Wearing fatigue color scheme for a game is totally in keeping with who they are. Houston wearing blue is ridiculous. Our colors are red and white. RICE wears blue, not Houston.
Thereās a reason we got a cease and desist letter from the NFL/Titans thatās framed and displayed proudly with our original blue jersey and hanging in the athletics uniform room
Wasnāt that it LOOKED like the Oilers (Titansā¦blah), itās that it was an exact copy of it lol
Anytime a school does a special uniform to honor our men and women of service I say good for you and it is beautiful uniform. I often think back to a commentator at an Army Navy game who said, āthis is the only college football game where every participant on the field has signed on to possibly die to serve the fans in the stand.ā We all need to remember that football is still a game and military service is scarfice for others.
Also, if the UH blue sells more merch, I say Love you Blue.
They look stupid which is perfect for agy.
Iām not a fashionista, but for what Aggie is trying to accomplish, the desert camo gets the job done. It salutes the military and increases merch sales.
I appreciate A&M helping me to not see the Aggies on the field, but staying away from the stadium accomplishes that sufficiently for me.
