Former UH Band Director Bill Moffit Would Have been 100 this Year

Bill Moffit served as UH’s Spirit of Houston Band Director from 1969-1981, and his 100th birthday would have been on May 12, 2025. Since I was in school during that time, I will always consider him UH’s Band Director, and no disrespect is meant to the Band Directors that followed him. He innovated UH’s marching style, wrote numerous arrangements. I believe he wrote the Eat em Up chant and The Horse, which are still played at UH .

If I’m a good boy the rest of the way and meet St. Peter at the pearly gates, I hope I am greeted by a Bill Moffit arrangement.

As a former band member for several years - As a former drum major for several years - And since Bill Moffit is my father, thank you for remembering him!

Was written by Cliff Nobles in 1968.

I think Moffit was one of the first to perform it with a college band and
it soon became a staple of band performances everywhere.

But agree Bill was probably our finest band director to date.
