Man, I just saw that Frank Beard died. I knew he had missed the recent ZZ Top remnants shows, but I hoped for the best.
And I happened to be wearing a “Tres Hombres” t-shirt today. Weird.

Rolling Stones & ZZ Top!
I had the immense pleasure of meeting ZZTop in the 80’s first this was the ZZTop keys era (remember the Legs video) and 90’s numerous times when I was still in Houston. When I first met them at Grundy’s off Kuykendahl I had no idea who they were. I had just moved over. I was with a few friends of mine speaking another language. I can’t remember if it was Dusty or Billy but they asked us who we were from. They told us they were going to tour Europe. We still had no idea they were a rock band. Long beards and they look more like bikers than a band. They were super nice and asked us a bunch of questions…and just like the videos they invited to have a couple of drinks with them and off we were outside and from their limo they gave us some keys and other ZZTop stuff. I know one of my buddy still has the key. I have no idea what I did with mine. Maybe a year or so later and a few times after in the 90’s I saw Dusty in the local Houston bar scene. Each time Dusty was great, super people. One night I am having dinner at Casablanca, Moroccan restaurant. Seating on the carpet and eating with our hands and here comes Billy. He and his date sat by us and here we are having dinner together. I had the chance to meet other bands and actors on the West Coast but apart from Roger Hodgson (Supertramp) very few were as nice as Dusty and Billy. Frank was more a family guy. I knew he was sick for a while. Dusty a couple of years back (five years already) and now Frank.
May you Rest In Pace SIR. Thinking of your family, Billy and all that love and have followed ZZTop.

By far my favorite band. More double entendres than any band I can remember 
(don’t know how they all got past the censors)
Frank Beard, the only one workout a beard. That’s how I know knew to pick him out.
They played at my high school sock hop in 66 or 67 or so in Galveston as The Moving Sidewalks. Saw them at least 4 other times including the famous Bar B Que & Barn Dance with Santana, Bad Company, Joe Cocker, Pablo Cruz and others in Austin in the first and only concert at DKR (Darrell Royal was pissed someone carved the state of Texas into the turf and said no mas). People were doing backflips off three story human pyramids, one landing right in front of me and I digress.
ZZTop will still perform. Billy had already replaced bass player Dusty Hill, RIP and has a new drummer to fill in for Frank lined up. The show must go on only with Frank and Dusty up in heaven inevitably Lookin For Some Tush.
