Would it hurt the university to just give away a good amount of the tickets they haven’t sold on the day of the game? They are doing so much to sell out the game by discounting food and parking while giving away $5,000 in scholarships. It can’t hurt to give away free tickets that most likely won’t be bought and it would help guarantee a sell out. If there’s like 1,000 tickets still available come 2pm Saturday then it would be time to just cut their losses and at least give half away. The starting price point of this game is $40 and could be holding some people out from coming. And I’m not talking about for the students but for the average fan/alumni
They’re giving away scholarships??
Yea 5 $1,000 scholarships to students at the end of the 3rd quarter
It really hurts revenues because folks come to expect it. Rather than just buy tickets immediately, the consumer will wait for the ticket to be free, or discounted, or whatever. It just isnt beneficial.
Yeah I think Ryan has a point . People will then wait to last minute to get free tickets. I think the best bet is to sell cheap tickets for the upper decks like family packs. Maybe they still do family packs of 4 for cheap? I used to buy those at the old Robertson stadium we had a kid and we’d always get 1 more for 4. The upper decks bother me bc I see empties. We also need to address an escalator or ramp. We now have done all needed facilities so it’s the last thing we need for fundraising.
Yeah not a good idea to give away the tickets… mark down the concessions, do giveaways, etc… not do not devalue your tickets. Otherwise people take them for granted and you anger those that actually paid.
They have 4 tickets for $100 if cost is an issue.
We see this exact thing play out every week on this board and I’m sure some of the UH Facebook groups.
Plus, free tickets are more likely to just not get used because the holder isn’t invested in going.
I think there’s a place for free/discount tickets for groups, but that’s it. If that’s your strategy for filling the stadium, then you’re failing.
If people have not paid for the ticket, they are more likely to not show up. They spent nothing, so makes for an easy excuse to bail.
And they’ll blame the cost of parking or whatever.
Is this the thread where everyone’s handing out free tickets?

Bernie Sanders visits this site??
Exactly right, I’ve done it myself with free Astros’ tickets. Didn’t pay for them; it was “no one’s loss” if I didn’t go. Nothing invested. If the tickets are given to a friend or family member, it’s a little different; you expect them to go.
I’ll just leave this here.
Mack answered my question lol
Big difference between the ticket office giving them away and a sponsor who bought tickets offering them as a promotion.
But the people who got those tickets for free won’t show up in big numbers, which does nothing to fill empty seats. At least we got some money out of the deal, though.
Exactly. If you get them for free from the ticket office, it is a single click of a button online.
If you get them from Mack, you have to make the effort to get them from his store. You have invested your time.
They are doing it via gallery furniture
300 4 packs for free
This has the ingredients of a epic, lasting meme, debacle.
