Fritz says that hes giving both Smith and Chriss the opportunity to take the starting job, didn't really answer why Ale hasnt gotten a chance

Coaches are stubborn as @#@

Duarte didn’t even ask specifically about Ale. He said 3rd options or something like that lol

Asked if third-stringer QB Ui Ale could get a look, Fritz said: "I don’t know. I’ve got to do a lot of searching and looking.

Searching and looking??? Is Fritz showing signs of early onset?

Playing time is usually earned in practice. Since I am not in practice, this is the only thing that makes sense. Maybe he’s not quite there yet, or redshirting.

This answer was concerning, to say the least. He might have well have said “I can’t coach this sh!t.”

That would make sense if he had a red shirt year but I believe he has already used it.

Could be wrong. Someone can confirm.

In the CWF Monday press conference for the review of ISU and preview of TCU, Joseph Duarte asked again about getting some looks from QB3 Ale. CWF said they (meaning the offensive staff) were going to have conversations this week about what to do moving forward and finding a spark. Sounds like he’s not ruling out the possibility of, at least, taking a look at Ale. Am I reading too much into what he said? Was that coachspeak for, “thanks Duarte for the same question again about Ale, but we’re going to stick with DS and Chriss.”?

Also, the WR group is getting a shake-up due to injuries.

If that is why they are playing so bad, then pull their NIL NOW, and let them walk.

That part didn’t sound like they’re really giving much thought to putting in Ale. He talked a lot about the missed assignments all over the field and specifically mentioned receivers, so it seems like he’s not interested in changing the QB when he sees other mistakes as being equally problematic.

I kind of think that if Ale was really on his radar, he would have made some comment about how he was working hard in practice and looking good, but it was pretty generic and unenthusiastic about making a change.

I’m having a hard time getting my head around the idea that almost halfway through the season, we have starters who don’t know plays, misread assignments, run wrong routes, etc. This isn’t an NIL or talent problem. This is an issue of the coaches not having the players’ attention and focus. This is also a leadership and accountability issue on the player side. The DC seems to have his player’s attention, but the same is not true for the OC.

Just my take but Fritz has avoided saying Ale’s name more than once now. That seems consistent with when coaches know a guy isn’t in the team’s plans going forward.

Too bad since Ale has 50% of our TD production this year !!

Again, I discount the Rice game.

I’ve been wondering and that makes sense

This season kind makes me want ‘transfer’ too🤦‍♂️

I dont know why it’s so hard to just start Chriss. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a QB1 have these stats and keep getting trotted out there. Kentucky used to win SEC games running the wildcat all night and having a tough D. Try some stuff.

It is getting to a point where if Fritz puts in Ale and Ale does well, the question Fritz will need to answer, and rightfully so, is what took the coaching staff so long? Five games, two candidates, zero points the last two games, and you have someone on the bench that has D1 experience.

Fritz has to realize that blind loyalty may be counterproductive if QB1 and QB2 do not show improvement. And if you can’t see that they are not getting the job done, you must be blind.

I have to assume that Ale just doesn’t get it done in practice and/or Smith looks really good. Most coaches are going to give their starters every benefit, especially if they’re seniors.

I hope that’s what’s behind his approach, because otherwise, you have to question the coach’s judgment and commitment to winning. I’m not ready to do that…yet.

and he hasn’t thrown an interception.

Nah. QB1 has had 5 games, idc whats going on in practice. Hes 1 TD and 5 INT in the 4 games that matter. Responsible for ZERO point production in 3 of the 4 games.

1-4 is not the reason Fritz is in my ‘indifferent/leaning unfavorable’ category. Its because of these personnel issues. Not playing Ale, to me there better be a damned good reason that surfaces one day. “Smith looks better in practice” aint it. Sure offensive ‘talent’ might be lacking but execution? remembering routes? This is not even acceptable on the high school level, who is to blame? Barbay? Fritz who hired him? Who is the QB coach? Why isnt Fritz able to get/hold onto better asst coaching candidates? Sure he didnt have much time but you’d better believe, regardless of state ties, a great coach can take his (or the coordinator will happily follow) coordinator (Nagle) for at least a season. See Sumlin/Kingsbury.

Im def giving him a throwaway season but needless to say Im not ecstatic by the small changes. Ill continue to support him, I wish his communication to us was better;I hope he does what he did at those other schools here in short order.

IDK what’s going on behind the scenes, but I’m giving Fritz the benefit of the doubt on this because, well, I don’t really have a choice. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

I gotta believe that if the offense continues to struggle the next two games and Ale does not play, whether Fritz says it or not, Ale will transfer at the end of the season. No analytics needed. Only common sense.
