It goes on to RIP ON the ACC for taking schools (Califord and SMU) that the Big 12 didn’t want, and which lack, according to the lawsuit “Tier 1 media football appeal” (see paragraph 112) simply to try and hold the conference together.
It then goes on to RIP ON the ACC for picking those schools OVER two schools (Oregon State and Washington State), that would have been better in terms of their Tier 1 media football appeal, over their screaming objections.
It then cites Florida Statutes calling the withdrawal penalties in place an illegal restraint on trade or commerce that prevent FSU from receiving its full market value and opportunities for its student athletes.
the total engineering research AND DEVELOPMENT funding for FSU in 2022 was 58,212,000
for FAMU it was 5,752,000…so FSU is getting the bulk of the research dollars in that partnership
but that is not an overly impressive number for FSU compared to AAU members and their life sciences 67,760,000 is not high compared to AAU members either
by comparison USF was 203,592,000 in life sciences and 50,859,000 in engineering
one needs to again understand that “development” is included in those numbers as well…the AAU will lean towards baseline knowledge vs the output of new products and uses in most cases
No it isn’t, and that is my point. And yes, USF as an institution is far better. Most people who go to FSU go to party, and that is a fact. That is what my former associate was telling me; it is a running joke in FL that FSU stands for, “Falling Short U”, “Failed School U”, “Football School U”, or my personal favorite and the old school one, “Free Shoes U”.
Now I will say, at one point, the same things were said about Arizona State, and it just got into the AAU, so anything is possible. Of course, compared to FSU, ASU may as well be Harvard. It got $673M in R&D funding in 2020 alone. It is also a leader in R&D for the DoD, DoE and Genetics. FSU is none of those things.
Honestly, the next school up for AAU entry is probably Va Tech.
no what isn’t…those are the engineering (and life sciences) numbers for FSU, FAMU, and USF
so while FSU and FAMU share an engineering program FSU gets credit for the bulk of the engineering research dollars
the life sciences numbers for ASU are 141,306,000 and engineering are 192,681,000
this as compared to Arizona 471,046 ,000 and 84,682,000
nowhere did I imply that FSU is close to getting into the AAU I just stated they have an engineering program and it is productive in research with the bulk of the credit for that going to FSU not FAMU
I know we all like to crap on SMU, but outside of SMU and Clemson, what teams in the ACC are really that much better than SMU at this moment? I think some of these schools are living in the past.
Regardless of who wins the lawsuits the ACC is done as a power conference.
The relationship between ACC and FSU is irreparably damaged now and the toothpaste will never go back in the tube. Only question now is how difficult or expensive it will be for the rest of the teams to bounce.
Im no lawyer, but I think the ACC crumbles quickly at this point and the other teams will exit with relatively little difficulty.
