Future Realignment Thread

Why do you keep comparing UH to SMU

We have nothing in common with them, and they have nothing in common with the majority of college football programs

They were sanctioned in the 80s for a reason. Now they have the legal ability to pay for players. It doesn’t matter what conference they are in, they will likely have more resources than most programs.

That’s why nobody wants to add SMU because they don’t fit anywhere other than the Big 12, but TCU already has that market. The ACC added SMU to merely save their media contract payouts

How many times does this have to be said to you lol

because the are parallel to us in a lot of ways

  • rejected from the SWC/ Big 12 merger
  • In state competition going after the same recruits we are
  • fellow conference mate in multiple conferences, post SWC
  • found a way back to a Power Conference roughly the same time we did

They don’t parallel with us in any measure. SMU was never supposed to be a good program to begin with hence why they cheated in the 80s

UH’s problems are from the same cause as SMU’s problems prior to becoming Power Schools

you are right, they now have a playoff appearance on their resume.

We have yet to earn one.

patience grasshopper

oh, I know…I’m just letting LAW he was rooting for a scenario that put SMU back into a Power Conference and I was rooting for an outcome that not only would have denied them but demoted Baylor, as well

SMU would’ve still landed in the ACC regardless of what would’ve came of the Big 12 / Pac 12 situation

No other school in that situation would’ve been able to do what SMU did

Possibly, but only because they would have added along with West Virginia, Cincinnati, Baylor and UCF types

Would they have selected SMU over Baylor?

Yes, because Baylor couldn’t have been able to structure a membership like SMU did

Baylor got money; but SMU got F**k You money

yes…that’s why I thought the PAC killing the Big 12, with UH finding a way in, would have resulted in about a half dozen LESS Power 4 schools than we have now.

The worst scenario, from a numbers standpoint happened. You want the club to MORE Exclusive…not LESS

Luckily, we did not cave and take in Washington State and Oregon State.

No way UH would have found a way in under that scenario.

NO WAY they take a G5 brand like UH when they could take four higher value P5 brands from the Big 12 instead.

You may be literally the only person here that ever considered that plausible.

That was never on the table.

Taking four Big 12 brands (NOT UH) was on the table and was rejected.

no…there have multiple reports, including one that HAD they raided the Big 12+ , they had Houston and TCU as their main targets.

Most of the Big 12 brands, like a Kansas State, Iowa State, Baylor, West Virginia, etc. would have been re-valued as junk bond status, just like Oregon State and Washington State

No report of that sort.

Every report said that Big 12 teams approached the PAC and were considered/rejected NOT UH.

UH was never on the table.

Didn’t take long to find it:

Sources say Houston and TCU were ‘this close’ to receiving an invite to the Pac-12

That was a bogus report from a TCU Homer that both the schools and the PAC denied.

I called BS on that the minute it was posted here years back because it listed TCU, and was not confirmed by any source (including PAC sources); only a local TCU beat writer.

TCU is R2 and the PAC in that time did NOT consider R2 schools.

TOTALLY non-credible on that basis.

Had it said “Tech and UH” it would be plausible.

But not an R2 school at the time.

Sorry, but UH was never on the table.

The PAC in its previous form NEEEEEVER admitted religious or R2 schools.

If it did, then BYU would have been invited eons ago. You should have dismissed any rumor involving TCU on that very basis when it first popped up, as I did.

no…YOU…you alone… are the ONLY person who thinks a brand in Lubbock Texas is more valuable that schools in Houston and the Metroplex

AGAIN, for your brick wall awareness, i am going to list the direct metros of 7 of the last 8 P2 adds

New York/New Jersey
Baltimore/ DC
Los Angeles x 2
Austin
Oklahoma City
Seattle
and I can make a case Oregon was for Portland

Sorry dude…the Oregon States. Washington States, Iowa States, Texas techs…just aren’t as valuable…they are logistical and market size nightmares

To the PAC Tech would be preferable to TCU as a non-religious R2 school.

R2 was never on the table.

And given that Tech’s biggest fan base is in DFW, they could better deliver that market as well.

Anyway, that rumor was bogus.

NO PAC SOURCE reported it.

They reported only a proposed merger with Big 12 schools which was rejected.

yet, they almost pulled the trigger on Southern METHODIST University so much so their commissioner did a campus tour.

Your arguments have no credibility…as they are all static black and white precedent BS…only narrow minded lawyers think that way…businessmen think in terms of creativity

He may have taken a tour as a courtesy at best and then did NOTHING.

SMU is another R2.

Not PAC material at the time.

Sorry, but no.

UH as a G5, SMU as an R2 G5, and TCU as an R2 religious school never stood a chance.

Only YOU, as I said, ever thought so.

The only proposal that the PAC voted on was a merger with then Big 12 which was REJECTED.

according to you…and I’ve told you many times your opinion is garbage to me

We now have a bloated P4, that netted THREE additional members than before the UT/OU news

P4 added (5)
Houston
BYU
Cincinnati
UCF
SMU

Demoted (2)
Oregon State
Washington State
