Future Realignment Thread

I think the Big East would take those schools.

The bigger question is whether those schools will want to give up big time football and go there.

Not seeing any doing that willingly.

I’ve always said that some ACC teams will join the Big 12, but others will remain behind in a diminished ACC that will still play football, but which will not be regarded as a power conference.

What do people say about the huge buyouts that FSU and Clemson would have to pay the ACC? OU and UT fees have helped the Big 12 surviving schools. Huge exit fees weren’t an issue with the Pac12.

Exit fees weren’t an issue for the PAC simply because they had no GOR in place beyond 2024.

With UT and OU, they ended up paying way less than originally contemplated.

Whether such huge buyouts will have to paid or not is the whole basis of the current litigation.

Can second this. When I lived in the DMV, I saw more coverage for Va Tech and JMU than UVA. UVA’s athletics are pretty minor league. They think of themselves as the “Lost Ivy” more than a public university. You know, Thomas Jefferson and all that.

I lived in Arlington for years; did two stints at the Pentagon.

The DC media definitely gives Maryland, and Georgetown athletics more attention than UVa athletics.

That said…their academic/institutional profile fits the B1G, and their geographic location fits the SEC. That’s why, as I said, they remain in the realignment conversation for the P2.

For now exit fees will be a big deal for remaining ACC members. Didn’t OU and Texas still pay $50M or more each and they only had a year left on GOR?

It didn’t quite work out that way.

No question and I completely agree. UVA would never voluntarily associate itself with the SEC unless it had no other choice.

The way Duke, UVA and UNC people talk about the SEC would shock people. Duke is basically just a bunch of people from the Northeast who could not get into the Ivy League so that is to be expected.

UVA and to a lesser extent UNC have always viewed themselves differently than other Southern Universities. If you ask most Virginians today, they don’t even view VA as a Southern state. That is why the term “Mid-Atlantic” was created. North Carolina and thus UNC is moving that direction. UVA and UNC were some of the first Southern Universities to integrate (1950 and 1951). They both officially desegregated in 1955.

So each school only got $10M and OUT took a smaller share in year one of the SEC. They also waited a couple years to leave after announcement.

FSU and Clemson leaving should be more like OUT than USC and UCLA.

One surprising thing is how hard it is to get into Northwestern and Duke. It’s about the same as non-HYP Ivies and probably harder than Cornell except for engineering.

Those schools are academic/selectivity powerhouses for sure!

Duke has a lot of Northeastern students but it also draws from the South. I graduated with 101 kids. 4 went to Duke.

It has a 6% acceptance rate. Same as Dartmouth and Princeton.

Time for some MAC-tion!!

Having gone to a MAC Game, they are actually fun to watch. TBH, Miami U has more fans at their games in their small stadium than we did back when I was at UH.

MAC football is absolutely ROCK bottom.

CMU has the largest MAC stadium, and it only seats 30,500.

Of course. Doesn’t mean it can’t be fun to watch. That was my only point. BTW - $10 that MU beats UIUC. They beat UC last year, on the road.

Miami is key, paired with UCF to complete with florida and fsu (assuming sec).

This Baylor dork is failing to mention that Baylor is failing.
