Man, I hope they at least got gift certificates for some free appetizers or something.
Kudos to the rescue team.
The main mechanism for pulling people off in cases like this was also malfunctioning. This was plan B

This will sting Galveston’s tourism which is what it’s now unfortunately reduced to. No bueno.
Tillman going to have to sell Caesars now, lol
Was it ever not about tourism
Yes. actually, if you know a little about Galveston and Houston history - tourism wasn’t always the number one revenue generator.
Yeah a hundred fifty years ago duhhhhh
Well, you asked was it ever not about tourism. 150 years ago would fall in that timeframe.
I don’t think it will have much effect on the islands tourism, or even
the pleasure pier itself. Rides get stuck at amusement parks with
some frequency. I was gonna watch the Pleasure Pier web cam , but it
seems down ![]()
What I found particularly interesting is that the emergency evacuation equipment built into the ride was broken. I question why you would have the ride running with that part not working. They were also lucky that the fire department had just gotten back their ladder truck after a couple months of maintenance. Could have been a much longer ordeal had they needed to call in a truck from the mainland.
Valid question. I don’t know if backup safety systems are checked daily or weekly
? I was down at Kemah boardwalk last summer and the area with
the splash pad near the Aquarium was in bad state of disrepair. Looked like
it had been nonfunctional for sometime. One or 2 other rides were down for repair
or maintenance as well, but they discounted the tickets at least.
Pier cam still down.
