I hate to say it, but during the Clyde Brooks McDickey era, it wasn’t out of the ordinary for us to either lose to, or just barely beat, Southland Conference and SWAC teams.
Sad that we were ever at that point.
GREAT that we’re at a level that we’ve come to expect!

If I’ve learned anything this year, it’s that we better not take any team lightly. Alabama had to scrape and claw their way to a victory against North Dakota last night. Some of these scrappy teams view these early season games like March Madness!

I mean, for a lot of teams it is. Lots of these lower level conferences only get their one conference tournament champion into the Big Dance, whether it’s the best team in the conference or not. So they’re taking advantage of what might be the biggest stage they play on all year.

If I’m being honest, I had to google it to make sure University of North Dakota and North Dakota State were 2 different schools.

Very different schools, but only about an hour apart.
The ND Fighting Hawks (fka Sioux fka Flickertails) didn’t move up to D1 until sometime around 2010. ND St has pretty much owned the 1-AA playoffs for a while. It used to be a pretty big rivalry game when both were in D2.

Yes, but when you go to college your friends will always introduce you as being from “Dakota” or “South Dakota”
