With the youth we have, we actually probably need games like this. They’re gonna learn more from this than a blowout and CKS will make sure of it. All is well.
I thought mtsu benefited from a lot of cheap play tonight. They have some good athletes that just play a cheeky brand of basketball I don’t greatly appreciate.
Meanwhile we played sluggish in every phase. Gotta clean it up. Glad we got the win.
Everybody clap your hands!
This game is like Houston football vs WVU where Hou is coming back from Xmas celebrations (like Halloween) except the coogs basketball team won. They’ll be focused next game against Cincinnati.
I can tell Sampson is trying to give Jojo a greater role on offense but it is getting very frustrating to watch. Jojo is doing things that are outside his wheelhouse and it is causing our offense to stagnate. It also takes him out of position to do what he excelled at before like rebounding. Hopefully Sampson gets him to play in position more because it is a rough watch and leaves a lot of points on the court.
MTSU played well, and UH had a C-minus performance—yet our Coogs still won the game. I’ll take it. Given the Christmas break, coming off a big game against Arkansas, and the reality that 18–22-year-old athletes sometimes just don’t have “IT” on certain nights, securing a win is what matters.
It will be OK. I didn’t have my best night either as a fan, I was late to my seat, stumbling around, feeling sluggish as I’m still riding the emotional high from the Coogs’ Texas Bowl victory over LSU. Time to hit the reset button for 2026. Go Coogs!
The play of our front court is a huge concern. We can’t throw the ball into the post like we did last year with Roberts and expect a bucket. Tugler has the offensive touch of a butcher and Cenac would rather shoot from outside. Maybe we can get a European player to join us midseaon like Baylor? lol
true but unless we have a 2022 level injury crisis idk if that happens
We definitely don’t have a true back to the basket player. Jojo isn’t good at it and we need to minimize using him that way. I think the guard talent is so good, we don’t need to have that to get buckets.
I feel like Jojo needs to focus on PnRs, pin downs, back cuts and offensive rebounding. That is what he will do at the next level.
No NBA team will draft him as a post up player nor high post maestro. It is a disservice to him and the team to put him in such a role.
Lost the rebound battle to MTSU. The important thing is they got tthe W but that is a little concerning.
I’m concerned right now going into B12 play Not tough inside Does Cenac not like to bang?
Give Lath more time . Our rebounding is average. Inside game non existent
I love seeing these posts. I said very early that Cenac needed to be more accomplished in the paint (defense and offense); a few here said that he wasn’t needed in the paint. Maybe he’ll toughen up, but I think it also could keep him from going to the show after just 1 year.
Mercy gave us a spark when we needed it. Hope he earn more minutes in CKS eyes.
We definitely need more guys who aren’t gonna play soft.
Tonight’s lack of effort had to be a gut punch for Sampson. There are about to be some rough practices.
Quote of the press conference:
“I’ll walk out the door the day my teams don’t play hard…, the effort tonight was disappointing, but that’s a choice they made. How we respond to that is a choice I’ll make.”
Houston Basketball Players and Cincinnati Saturday:

It’s been a long time since I played for a coach in anything. But that sounds terrifying
Despite the loom and gloom of tonight’s performance, I thought Mercy Miller brought some much needed energy when the team needed him to. He’s coming along really well.
CKS secretly loves when his team plays like this especially after a big win just so he doesn’t have to make up something to get the belt out for some B2A. Wes and Cincy gonna have a bigger reason than Skyline Chili to be poopin their shorts come Saturday.
CKS comment after the game - "But just the way we played tonight wasn’t concerning. It was disappointing, you know. But on a disappointing night, I thought probably the only bright spot out there for us was probably Mercy.”
Yeah something tells me after this week in practice we won’t see a lot of lackluster efforts going forward. Not saying we’ll win everything but it won’t be for lack of effort.
it must be bad if the press conference is only 8 minutes too ![]()
To be fair there wasn’t a lot to talk about. It was the same question rephrased a few times. Everyone with eyes saw we didn’t play well or with a lot of effort.
