milos is the only pg in our program under sampson that had to peform year 1 - either no expectation or had someone better in front of them. cant compare him to other pgs… loves the progress from him, and not even worried about the pg position. loves the progress. his confidence was shaken coming in, and like quentin grimes we built it up

we should have beaten sdsu (very confidently), should have beaten bama (less confidently- mentions clean looks to win the game) , and could have beaten auburn if a couple things had gone our way (he is talking quality of the team, that as fans and media all we see is the L, but he saw how this team could be)…
-
early Ls mean nothing to him, early records are based on who you play (quality of team) could have easily been13-0 on previous schedules
-
weve gotten drastically better, especially on defense, since November
-
mercy played more maturely… he came with a “give me the ball and get out of my way aau” mentality, he is growing out of that - wants him to mold himself after LJ, LJ is a greater mentor to mold his game after . jokes not sharp

tcu is like oklahoma st, but tcu is a bit more skilled- tcu centers plays super hard

javier had an amazing offseason , his injury killed his MO. wants to build his consistency
Arceneaux reminds me of the player I had hoped to see in Bennie Anders.
Anders was electric. You had to pay attention because Anders was going to DO something. He played about 3 feet above the rim.
I thought Francis played his best game against BYU. He will probably never be a post up scorer, but for the most part he played much better especially on defense.
Arcenaux is getting his groove on, probably our best all around player.
You can just see his confidence building.
I really like his handles and his ability drive the lane and get off good shots.
I liked what Coach had to say about Francis in today’s presser at practice. Javier has three responsibilities:
- Defense;
- Rebound; and
- Take care of the ball.
Yes, that about sums it up.
irrespective of what he says , coach’s tone sounds like he is chaffed at loses to Bama, SDSU.
“Methinks, He doth protest too much”
After hearing coach speak, just realized next year is shaping up to be the youngest team we have fielded in a while!
When I saw Benny play, I always thought of Elton John’s “Benny and the Jets” because he had that amazing leaping ability and knew how to play with the ball. Great Coog!
TA has made nice progress this season. He’s up to ~20 minutes per game, he shooting around 50%, and compared to his play earlier this season, he looks stronger, quicker, and more decisive. He’s got a nice shooting touch. I don’t know if ~20 minutes per game is his limit (physically because of his achilles injury), but I’d like to see him get a few more minutes. I’m also a Mercy Miller fan. I like his confidence and, “get out of the way” attitude, “watch me put the ball in the hoop!” If TA and MM continue to play well, Houston will be a tough out in February…AND IN MARCH!
Hard to compare players from different eras because Benny didn’t have a three point line to train with. TA maybe even more lethal coming off our bench.
As for TCU I think they may have a problem.
4 of the 5 guys who touched the floor off their bench last game are freshmen. They have one vet who can hit some threes.
Their starters have some size but none are real post scorers. Udeh can rebound but KSU had 18 ORBDS against them. Their starting guards are both from smaller schools. One from Canada who has struggled some adjusting to a higher level. I think we can be very disruptive to their offense and very active against them on the boards. CKS mentioned TCU needing to run but having to dedicate themselves to the boards will stop that I believe. One more add is they are not a good FT shooting team so getting the free points will be a chore.
TCU has literally no advantage whatsoever.
At the start of the season, they only had three true guards. All of them are shooting at terrible percentages, and one of them suffered a season-ending injury two weeks ago (leaving only two true guards on the rosterr]). Their great preseason hope was Noah Reynolds translating to high-major play (a 20-point scorer at Green Bay). The transition started horrendously. They also have two touted stretch 4 transfers to play at the 3 and 4 positions, which were supposed to create mismatches. However, neither has been anything special at TCU so far—one has even been benched in favor of a non-offensive freshman for defense. Their center can rebound but can’t do much else.
This is a terrible matchup for them. They are extremely reliant on isolation drives, but we don’t allow that. We trap anything that enters the post. Two of their starting five players offer no offense at all. Their point guard has made only 2 of his last 18 three-point attempts (20% for the season). The other two starters are just okay shooters—decent when left open but not a threat when defended. I have no clue how they plan to score on us. Their starting 4 is only 185 pounds, and they make up for this by overhelping in the post. They play a matchup zone defense, which leaves open looks at the 3-point line if you move the ball well.
They are also very thin in depth. They only have one center and two guards; every other rotation player is a forward. If their center gets into foul trouble, they are left with a 6’8", 215-pound player at the 5. They are so reliant on driving that I just don’t see how they score against a team like us.
Prediction: I think we are going to absolutely dominate them. My hopes for this game include the continued improvement of Lath, maybe some good mercy minutes, and Uzan continuing to develop his skill set. I hope one of our guards shows out, and/or we have another 14+ three-pointer game.
Also, we will be the only ranked team playing monday on national TV. This could be a big perception game for us. I’m hoping for good offense to silence some of the talking heads criticizing our offensive play.
