I want see the replay of Sampson jumping in his chair.
+25 for TA. That is impacting winning.
You have no clue. About half full before tip. 95 per cent full at 10 minute mark Here’s a news flash for you, People who have jobs or live in the suburbs CAN’T get through the traffic in time to make 7:00 games. When we get to play at 8 its much better.
It took 45 minutes to get from the Heights to campus, probably a 6-7 mile drive. Traffic at 6:45 was intense.
It’s crazy but even with the 4-3 start, we’ve arrived at the midpoint in the season only one game behind last year’s (record wise). 14-2 vs 13-3. 1-2 in league vs 5-0. Not sure if it’s still considered a hot take but this year’s team looks better than last year’s to me.
Jojo’s defensive rating entering today was 79.9! That’s tops in the country. In fact since 2009 there have only been 5 players with a defensive rating under 80. UH should have the national DPOY two years in a row. Dude’s a beast.
Every single one of our wins this year has been by double digits and all 3 of our losses has been by single digits. I hope our guys know how to win the close ones when it’s all on the line these next few months there are going to be some intense games coming up soon
What is the source for that defensive rating? I’m a big JoJo fan and would like to see the analytics you are looking at. I’ve seen he’s #4 in evanmiya’s overall ranking and #1 in his defensive ranking.
I wish defense was appreciated as much as offense. Jojo is a once-in-a-lifetime defensive player. He is the reason our normally elite defense has reached a whole new level this year.
Javon Small is arguably the best iso scorer in the league right now—off the dribble (though you could debate Curtis Jones or Caleb Love).
Jojo is our center—the center position! He was ISO’d with Javon on the perimeter, and the result was an almost-block, followed by stripping the ball (even though Iowa State recovered). What’s crazy is what happened afterward. If you pay attention, when Iowa State recovered, Jojo was still guarding Javon (an elite iso scorer) on the perimeter. Yet, they didn’t want to give Javon the ball, even though he was being defended by our center at the 3pt line. (The clip below)… sad part is becuase WVU recovered the strip he doesnt get any stat line from that crazy play
will be curious how the DPOY race goes for both in-conference and nationally… the top higher major shot blocker in totals is in our conference (Jayden Quaintance ). nationally cooper flagg and johni broome have the hype … even though i think jojo is better
most stats sites have a listing for defensive rating
What site is your screenshot from?
Pulling it from basketball reference. The first link shows the best individual seasons for defensive rating since 2009. The 2nd link shows our team stats for this year. If you go to the per 100 section you can find each players defensive rating. Jojo’s is bolded and italicized because he leads both the conference and the country in that category. Btw you’ll notice Mr. Sharp is also leading the country in 3pt%. This is a special team!
Here’s something crazy. Francis led the country last year in defensive rating at 85.79. His defensive rating this year is an 81.6 and he’s playing back up to Jojo. We lost the national DPOY in Jamal Shead and might’ve somehow gotten better defensively. Its insane lol
Mostly because of injuries. With at least three, maybe four walking wounded and/or injured out for the season, we were not as good as we are right now. We are at full strength and smoking . . . . .
It is not hyperbole or Coog colored glasses, this team can win it all.
JoJo is our most athletic big man since Dream. But he should stay one more year.
What is remarkable about last night was that it wasn’t all that remarkable. Holding teams to under 55 points is astounding. Doing it as often as the Coogs do it makes it seem easy.
Bo Outlaw was an exceptional defensive player and carried that into a long, productive NBA career.
I come from the Heights too. What I’ve started doing is going White Oak to N. Main, jump on 59, and go through East River to Lockwood. It’s about 25-30 minutes but it’s very little traffic.
