Why would it be?
Houstonians donāt do well in bad weather, especially if it is below 50 degrees.
Kelvin seems very impressed with this WVU team. After watching them a few times, so is Jayme @iScoutUH31 :
its game day!
sorry Iām late, busy morningā¦
There isnāt really any wiggle room in the schedule, so cancelling it is an extremely low possibility. If thereās crazy ice on the roads maybe it gets pushed to Wednesday.
I was about to put out an alertā¦
Oh⦠I donāt live in Houston⦠theyāll probably wait to see if it actually snows or ices overā¦
Yeah⦠I never used to leave the house when it snowed in Houston.
Yea. He played conservative after getting the lead and tried to run out the clock with 1.5 quarters left.
They stole it from us and nearly hit a 3 as time expired. They hit that I guarantee you they OSU wins in overtime.
It is a shame the younger members on this board did not get to see Otis Birdsong play. He was that good. Definitely the third-best player in UH history behind only No. 1-overall NBA picks Elvin Hayes and Akeem Olajuwon.
Birdsong was No. 2 overall pick in 1977 draft and was a 4-time NBA All-Star before injuries set in.
Easily the best guard in school history. Don Chaney was a better defender but it was on offense where Birdsong excelled.
Iām not sure what kind of range Birdsong had because it seemed like all his shots were short or mid range and his shooting percentage was good.
There was not a 3-point shot then so why attempt a long jumper when a 8-12 footer will suffice.
This morning I was reading about Otis in the
May, 1978 issue of Basketball Digest and found this interesting.
A heavily recruited player out of high school, Birdsongās final 3 colleges were Purdue, Cincinnati and Houston. He liked all three head coaches.
If they are thinking of pushing it to Wednesday they should just go ahead and to it now so everyone can plan accordingly not day before then everyoneās travel plans are messed up
Birdsong was at the end of this UH career when I arrived on campus, and he was tremendous.
Hakeem, Elvin Hayes and Clyde Drexler are the only Cougars to average more points per game in their NBA career than Birdsong.
I would feel like Utah wouldnāt want to do that and have a half empty Fertitta Center. And they would likely laugh at us over a little bit of snow according to them.
āFluffā aka āGreen Light Always Onā McKiver. Heās one of my very favorite Coogs of all time (as it Aubrey Coleman).
As he should be. They have wins over Arizona, Gonzaga, and Kansas at Allen Fieldhouse, which is hard to do.
This should be an interesting matchup for the Coogs. J Small is not only a good shooter but heās quick enough to penetrate lanes for the score or dish. Curious to see if Uzan can stay in front of him without getting into foul trouble. As weāve seen a few times this season, weāre not exactly the same team when Uzan is off the floor, although Wilson is playing pretty good as of late.
WVU also has a 6ā11ā 240 lb big man that can rebound and block shots. Our front court struggled a bit when we played against a San Diego State team that had a good shot blocker and front court that could rebound. Iām curious to see if our front court is neutralized once again. If so, this game could prove difficult for the Coogs.
Like I said I was mainly talking about long range.
If I had to just pick long range shooters I would go with Sharpe, Jeff Hickman, Wayne Ballard, Rob Williams, Armoni and Micheal Young.
Iām sure we had a couple of bombers on the good Pat Foster teams, but those, I listed stand out to me as long range, shooters.
I was never a big fan of McIvet but he had range when he was on.
Man Fluff when he was on might be one of the great shooters but he was so streaky. When he was off it was borderline traumatic.
But Fluff, Aubrey Coleman and Lanny Smith. Bright spots in really dark times.
Enjoying warm Houston winter weather and the best restaurant scene in the South for an extra day⦠Iāll take that anytime before heading home to 20 degree Morgantown
Drexler averaged 14, Birdsong averaged 24. His senior year he scored 30 per and shot 57 per cent. One of the great shooters in college history, not just UH.
He was first team all-america as a senior.
This is how I feel about LJā¦
He is when heās on but he has some serious cold spells at timesā¦
He was referring to their NBA scoring averages.
