It is KS biggest flaw that we love most of the time. His candidness. Usually it is funny and true. This comment was just tacky. We are spending more on the program than ever before and it is enough for him to field this roster. And doing it before full Big 12 money has hit the coffers.
When people give money to your cause, it is very unbecoming to be critical even if someone else is getting more. Hopefully he realizes how it came off and corrects it.
It happens to every program. It is a new age. Our school and alumni base arenât the wealthiest but we are investing in his program at levels neither he or we have seen before at UH. The fan support is the greatest it has ever been. And it is going to keep increasing. We all wish it could be even higher despite all that.
The comment didnât come off well. It sounded unappreciative and sour. He is likely stressed to the max juggling all the responsibilities including trying to land these top players with NIL.
Maybe you are right. I donât remember the quote verbatim. I just recall multiple comments from he and Kellen that gave me the impression they are able to pick from more elite pool of talent now. It was more about finding culture fits than talent level.
I didnât take it that way, as itâs the same message that Fritz had in his signing day press conference. I took it as an attempt at fund raising, but I donât really like it, either, because weâre not âpoorâ just because we donât have unlimited funds to sign every player we might want for whatever they ask for.
I donât think itâs a coincidence that he and Willie said the same thing in press conferences over the last couple of days though.
I think heâs doing what he intended, this will allow the appropriate questions to be asked & the results will come in. Things donât change by staying quiet
Sampson knows what he is doing and when to speak publicly. Im am almost positive his message was planned. This is how we got Fertitta Center and the NIL we have.
One thing Iâve noticed over the last few games is that the team vibes have been awesome. Not that there were any issues earlier in the year, but they just seem like theyâre having more fun out there. Having fun doesnât win you games, but I think itâs a symptom of good progress in other areas.
I mean⊠this comment explains exactly why he said what he said. Just because weâre spending more on the program than ever before does not mean we are spending at a level that can sustain the elite success and results we have come to enjoy and expect long term. Weâve all seen the graphs and charts that rank the budgets, NIL and spend of B12 and P4 programs and know weâre very much towards the bottom still that wont change much even with full B12 money coming in. We canât afford to be delusional with having champagne tastes on a beer budget and this is him calling attention to that.
Closed mouths donât get fed and squeaky wheels get the grease. You can call it tacky all you want but that tackiness is what got us the GVL Basketball Development Center and the Fertitta Center and the best run of success the program has ever seen.
