Game 37: Purdue vs Houston; Sweet 16 (W 62-60)

I read WVU declined the NIT and the College Basketball Crown.

Any concern that playing in football arena will mess with our shooters?

I know that is a common concern raised (sight lines, depth perception, etc)

But I just really don’t get it myself.

A) Most cases (unless it is one team’s everyday stadium), if it is going to impact one team, it likely impacts the other similarly.

B) All players have played outdoors. The wind is the concern there, not a depth perception thing.

C) I know when I played, my eyes’ focus was - as a shooter - always ONLY on the rim (closest edge to me)
unless I’m shooting a bank shot layup or such.

I know, i know, people claim it so it must be a thing. Never was to me though.

Would Purdue players have played there ever?

My guess is likely some of them have.

But I’d contend not enough to matter if there really is a shooting sight concern (which I am skeptical of significance anyway).

But maybe some shooters are sensitive to that.

Shooters can shoot. Kids play growing up sooting outside and in gyms with a wall right behind it. Then in college they play in arenas. Don’t see much difference in a basketball arena and a football stadium as far as being the goal. Also, players are focusing on their spot on the rim, not in the stands. I think it is just something for the media to talk about, it is what th media does.

Cryer says depth perception is a real a thing but it would effect both teams

Best Purdue, win the national championship. Sounds good to me!

LJ and J’Wan have been exposed to this exact configuration of Lucas Oil, I think. Both were on their respective final four teams in 2020-21.

Duarte must be writing a story about Tugler.

I don’t think LJ played much for Baylor and J’Wan didn’t get many minutes for UH for the 2021 tournament.

That’s exactly what I’ve been thinking about

Why did they not just play where the Pacers play? It’s not like they are even using the entire football stadium.

Yeah is the depth perception as big a deal as we think? They’re only using maybe a third of the actual stadium anyways

I’m not worried. Ballers gonna ball out

Yes but
they practiced with their teams, so the sight lines are not foreign to them.

Apparently that’s booked for the Indiana high school boys’ state championships. I’m not even kidding.

I’m not arguing with LJ about both teams being affected, but in the FF it seemed to affect us. However, I’m still waiting for Baylor to miss a shot!
