Well, that sucked. But you have to hand it to Auburn, they just out played us. We had no answer for Broome or Pettiford. I really don’t like it when we have to go to Wilson at PG. I was disappointed with the offensive output from Cryer and Sharp, or actually the lack thereof. But then again, Auburn played superb defense.
I was happy with the play of Roberts and Tugler. When he was in, Arceneaux did well. When Francis gets to full speed things will get better and we will have more depth. It may have been better to have held Francis out again.
I wish we could actually get a big man, not just a tall skinny guy, but a guy like Broome. With McFarland out, our only real big man is Lath and he is not ready to play big minutes, and tonight I didn’t see him at all.
I won’t second guess Sampson on who he plays, But I would really like to see Mercy Miller play. He probably isn’t tuned into the defense enough yet, but I would like to see him on offense to get a taste of how good of a shooter he is.
We have a few more tough teams before we get into conference play and they should sharpen us up by the time we hit conference play. It really doesn’t matter where we are ranked in November and December, though I think we will still be in the top 10.
One big thing from this game is it gives CKS a lot of film to teach with. Another thing is it may get the attention of our kids on just how hard they have to work to get where we want to be. The team on the floor tonight will not be the team we will have come March. The dance is a long way off.
the issue wasnt jwan, it was just that broome was better…jwan will look amazing vs the mostly lower quality bigs we will play against
jwan had a stretch of looking like an all-american this game… because broome was on the bench …broome is just better on offense an defense… jwan will be better in both than 80% of the 4s he will match up with all year
Honestly I think our closer can be Uzan - it was unfortunate that he fouled out. That jumper to cut it to 2 was someone with ice in his veins. I’m excited for his growth this year.
And on Jwan - it’s the same story as before. He’s great but when he gets matched on someone bigger and equally as skilled, it’s a tough match up for him. He will look bad in some of those games. This was one of them.
Auburn look really good! Can only tip the hat at this early matchup.
