GAME THREAD: Houston vs. Auburn | 8:30PM | Toyota Center/ESPNU

I can see it some games but this why I wish he had a jump shot. Jwan doesn’t have a counter punch to throw at defender that can match up with him.

Not worried. We lost a close game to a good team. It happens to everyone. There wont be many games where our opponent will bank in two threes.

Plus the play where Roberts grabs an offensive rebound but the refs stop the play to call defense goal tending only to take away the points later and basically converting that play to a turnover :person_shrugging:

Coming into Houston and beating the Coogs has become a big deal. We have arrived

Team is still geling. 5* kid from Jersey is NICE!

The 2nd foul on Cryer was early and inconsistent horse manure. It killed us and the same contact on both sides wasn’t called all night after that.

Most people still watching football, Alabama vs LSU last night etc

Auburn won playing Prison Ball. So many elbows thrown. Should have been at least two flagrants. My heart pumps piss for them the rest of the season.

Uzan plays a little bit soft for me.

@Coog2010

The pros w/ Uzan are: good attitude, unselfish, good mid range game. Decent rebounder

The cons so far: defensive intensity. He’ll give a guy space, to prevent getting driven up

Hes kinda Quentin Grimes Year 1. Has the frame to be a great defender, but not mentally there yet

And then his driving ability, you have to be able to change speeds. Jamal was sooo good at it. Uzan plays kinda at 1 speed with the ball, where defenders can stay w/ him

I agree with all these points.

First time I saw him play. I got excited, thinking that we might have a guy that was a mix of Kyler from a shooting perspective and Dejon from length and decision-making. Both were solid defenders.
Deion was a really tough kid. Uzan is probably tough as well. He just doesn’t play with enough grit to me. It’s still early and I understand that too.

That is a really great point @pesik. Kudos to Uzan on his good defense. Now we need one more person to be able to steop up and defend at that level.

ON Broome’s level? 0
He’s better than Dickenson if you ask me.

ryan kalkbrenner at creighton is a potential mte final round opponent, he’ll be up there

he is currently averaging 37pts 8rbs 3blk on 91% fg%, 100% 3pts, 94% ft%

i dont have frame by frame, but this dude was out of bounds

best way to make sure you set a good screen is to push the guard as he goes over you

Jwan at the elbow peacefully watching his man screen Pettiford’s guard

Seriously took so much advantage of our mid court trap in the last 5 minutes of the game. Im not smart enough to pick them all apart but it was bad.

I’m tired of hearing about Jamal.

Uzan also fouled out when Auburn went to the free throw line to go up 3. So we had two last possessions without Uzan. So I don’t like this argument becuase UH was +14 with Uzan on the floor.

Those last two possessions just show one of our glaring weaknesses. This group of guys minus a point guard really struggles. Cryer and Sharp cannot set up an offense and they both aren’t good at finding a shot off the dribble. People are also ignoring the game could’ve gone differently if Sharp did not throw it away in a crucial possession.

If Uzan goes down this year the ceiling drastically changes and we’ll no longer be title contenders.

I’ve got to say I’m disappointed in Sharp so far this season. In the offseason Kelvin kept hyping him up. And we were hoping he would be better off the dribble and in the pick and roll. But he got locked up by Auburn. I worry that against any good defender Sharp will just turn into a catch and shoot guy. But’s its only been two games so we’ll see. But it’s not like he’s new. It’s his 3rd year in the program.

Jamal is on the raptors now. This is a new team and new season. Playing the what if or what could’ve been game does nothing. There were a lot of games last year we could’ve lost. And it wasn’t all on Shead. The game winner vs Oklahoma was possible because Roberts grabbed the rebound. We were playing poorly at UCF and Cryer went berserk the last 10 minutes.

Who knows what would’ve happened Saturday with Shead playing for UH. Maybe we still would’ve lost or maybe we would’ve won. But I don’t see the point in crying about how Shead is no longer on the team. This is a new season and a new identity.

I made this point after the game. We played too slow on offense. They need to play with more flow and pace. We have the talent to. They executed play calls with too much rigidity.
