GAME THREAD: UCF (11-6) at #5 Houston (16-2) 1/20 1:00 PM (W 57-42)

Most of our free throws come on second chance in the paint.

Did not expect men v boys today.

UCF wants to play UH style but UH much better at it today.

That’s one way to look at it. And no doubt there are bad/missed calls.

But, check FG attempted. 56 to 44 while being essentially even in rebounding.

If you get fouled on a shot, it is not a FGA (unless it’s a make).

I think we foul more. We are sending the opponent to the line more.

It’s a winning strategy. We do it.

A fouled shot doesn’t count as an attempted field goal if its a miss.

Right?

Or did they change that?

I think many of the 2nd half fouls/FTs were non shooting

Definitely a backdoor cover there. Ucf played their best when the game was decided.

It more had to do with us. We stopped competing.

Sounds right to me.

But someone was comparng FT attempted to FGA and drawing a conclusion from it.

I don’t think that comparison necessarily says much.

If Coogs literally fouled (deliberately) on every fga, and there were no “and-1"s”

Boxscore could show 0 attempted FG and 50 free throws attempted. That doesn’t mean the refs were bad.

Interesting but then why did we get more attempts in a lot of our non conference games?

Some you could argue is opponent quality. So let’s just look at KP top 75 teams.

In out of conference play we played Utah, Dayton, X, and Aggy. Our FT deficit average was 7. I can handle that.

But our deficit is now up to SIXTY-One in 5 Big 12 games.

We are -13 in road Big 12 and -14.5 at home so it’s not home cooking. And if you remove West Virginia (they’re bad in metrics) our FT deficit in Big12 is 17.5 per game.

Something is off.

Love the win but two points from Sharp and Dunn?

only worry about what you can control.

Yeah that wasn’t ideal, they both struggled today. Seems like they picked a good day to do it though. We’re going to need serious 3 point shooting at BYU

We heard 2 different games then

Your points actually point to us consistently fouling a lot. We go for a lot of steals, when you go against better players that will probably result in more fouls called.

It’s either we foul a lot, and more get called in our conference games, or the refs are out to get us. I’m going to choose the path with less conspiracies for now. Considering the INSANE level we are playing on defense I’m not surprised by the large number of fouls.

That game was hard to watch. definitely an offensive struggle by both teams. We just need to find our offensive stride at some point
hopefully going into the tournam

I want some more of this.

Mmm I don’t think so. I just think it’s not a big deal when commentators pay some compliments to our opponents especially when they’re always talking us up with “Houston’s standard of excellence”, “relentless Cougar defense”, “they just don’t ever let up” etc.

Just got back from the wrestling match errr
basketball game. Don’t think I ever saw a team get more points from the foul line than the field.

Gonna be tough in Orlando

Worried about Roberts and that knee again, coach said it was bothering him again in game, without him we will be in big trouble
