Off the top of my head i have no idea. But in the past its not the top end where the Big 12 really helps you. Its the lack of a basement.
However, at the end of the day the CFP committee couldnt care less about your lack of basement. Its all about $$$ and big attention grabbing spectacle wins. So theres that.
It’s because we’ve always had really good offenses when we’be had great seasons. It’s also because we’ve always needed to have a less conventional offense to compete with teams that have more talented teams.
Part of it is entertainment, but part of it is the fact that mediocre/poor offenses have always resulted in bad seasons. And this season hasn’t done anything to change that, one defensive win notwithstanding.
You want people to embrace “winning ugly”? Better win more.
What I’m saying is I think there are people that would be just as satisfied with us scoring 55 points last night and losing…as long as we get a play or two on espn.
We aren’t playing in kiddie leagues anymore.
We were destined to be bad this year out of rote circumstances.
Just wanted to post that we were surrounded by Utah fans in our section. They were nicer than I thought they would be after reading all the negativity about them. It helps that they game was always close, but they were polite. I met several in the concourse and they were complimentary about the stadium. I was also happy with the numbers they brought. No way we see that many U of H fans at their stadium.
This is exactly what I’m talking about. Rationalizing the negative. You either win my way or I’m going to poo in my diaper. We won the #% game. The kids were happy as Hell. We weren’t expected to win the game.
Fair enough, I get that and your point is well taken.
All I would say to that is getting creative with your style to compete with more talented teams is the the name of the game in the Big 12. We all do it.
And its undeniable most Big 12 teams for nearly a decade have certainly chosen to go down a more similar route to what you’ve seen this year with CWF. The only team that consistently tries to do it with an emphasis on offense in the last decade or so is TTU, and we’ve all seen how well thats worked for them. So buyer beware.
Although to your point, sonny dykes and TCU is also in that category with a small sample size. Gary Patterson ran a defense first program. Offensive TCU has had mixed results under Dykes, but he DID make the big one with someone else’s players. Can’t take that away from him for sure. No one was more happy to see TCU beat Michigan than Big 12 fans, we needed that one bad. So you might have an angle there.
They ARE arguably the most inconsistent team in the league right now. Idk what to expect from them quarter to quarter, let alone over the course of a season.
I wanted Barbay fired and Ale in at the 11 minute mark of the first quarter. But that’s because I thought we were going to lose. But once you put the “W” in the books I don’t care if it was with 39 shovel passes and 17 flea-flickers. You have met my expectations.
Why is Utah allowed to get away with the claim that they are elite with Cam Rising and we cant judge them without him for being 1-4?
I know ISU feels really good about our 2nd and 3rd string QB. Nobody wants to lose their QB, but guess what? We have backup plans. Who woulda thunk? (Not to mention they’ve had what 7 years to prepare for the scenario??)
Football is the ultimate team sport. One guy goes down. So what? You dont get to go from demanding we kiss the ring to demanding we give you a complete pass for what you do without him
I think Utah is still a pretty good team. The big 12 is better. Make them eat it.
