Not many UH fans living in Utah, probably a bunch of UU alums in the 4th largest city in the country. I doubt that many traveled from Utah to Houston. I may be wrong…
It was a perfect night for football and we won with defense and ran the ball well. I was happy and had a great time. Now it continues today at 4. Also, I got a text from the UH ticket lady saying to meet her at the top of section 111 30 minutes before tip so she can put a face with my name. Great job to the ticket office!
I was behind some Utah plates on the way out of campus. Long drive back for that Ute!
I agree. The play where Zeon rolled out with the option to run or pass was a good play. I just wish we would have done it to the wide side of the field. The receiver did not have much room to work.
The runs up the middle were doomed. Utah was stacked in there.
Would loved to have seen more slants, seam routes, and an occasional challenge to the DB who was one on one with our WR.
Just my observation we left 6 -14 points on the field final should have 31/23/20-14 if he had taken the FG or scored TD’s. Which would would have reflected how much more dominant we were in the game. If Barbay can figure out how to punch the ball in from the 1 yard or less line, score could have easily been 31-14.
Yeah, you’re creating an argument that I didn’t make.
The 2 4th and goals were real head scratchers. Wouldn’t a conservative offense take the points by FG?
I was OK with the first one. But the second attempt didn’t make sense, given that it was pretty obvious that points would be at a premium. Fortunately, their kicking game wasn’t very good.
Speaking of kicking, if we’re going to be a defensive team that plays the field position game, our punting has to get better.
Rewatching parts of the game and man the TD toss to Johnson by Zeon gives me so much hope lol
They really need to work on his passing more but there were some bright spots. It is a lot to do with timing of throws.
So true. Was at the game vs Tech last night and it was good/bad per quarter easily. Luckily a good end of game and then getting to listen to UH on the drive back.
As to the defense comments, I think it is a learned appreciation for fans. Once they get behind their coach and the coach shows a strong style, they will appreciate how the team plays. Sticking with Tech as an example, I think TCU fans appreciated the 12-3 victory over a Leach Tech team as much as the 82 point scoring blast win. Fans just need to accept the style and the coach needs to have one to earn the respect. Patterson did that over time with consistency and even non-TCU fans started to respect it.
This is the key. It’s really the same with offense, though - prove you can outscore teams every week and you’ll have the BUT I LOVE DEFENSE people on board eventually.
But it’s obvious that scoring 14 points a game isn’t going to cut it unless we’re running out the 1986 Chicago Bears defense.
I still can’t explain how UH won that game.
- Fewer than 300 yards offense and outgained by Utah
- Only 61 passing yards
- Turned over the ball on downs at the goal line – TWICE
I guess I’ll chalk up this win to pure desire – UH wanted the win and got it. That way, I don’t have to come up with a rational reason. And I will freely admit that my preseason prediction did not include a W over Utah.
Utah had two turnovers and UH had one. The last turnover set up the winning field goal. Speaking of field goals, Utah missed a field goal in the first half. The margin of victory vs defeat is very small.
I think they missed 2 FG’s.
And get intercepted for a pick 6? Sounds like Pearland wants Donovan back in!
Our goal like Sampson’s first year was not to FINISH LAST in the conference. After last night, that goal could be achieved by CWF.
Sampson has a lot of ugly basketball wins…so what as long as you win! Can’t be pretty every night!
More lopsided win than anyone in basketball
