We are going to get rolled.
Iowa St defense is similar to UC (3-3 front) so expect they will also dare us to pass into a bunch of defenders since run blocking is so weak. Hopefully ISU QB is not as effective as UC new QB who made quick, good decisions and was accurate.
Very astute. ISU scheme invites opponents to run the ball and take check downs all day by design. You have to be patient and disciplined. No penalties, no turnovers, YAC, and very smart selective shot taking is the key to beat ISUâs defense. It is vulnerable to QB runs, but they will use a spy in those situations. The guy who plays spy in this defense only plays in those situations. Its literally his only job. Hes pretty good at it.
DC Jon Heacock is a pioneer and basically the inventor of the 3-3-5 zone scheme, at least in its modern trendy form. ISU has been running it full time since Week 4 vs texa$ is 2017. They are oddly very good against the run even with light boxes and usually are at or near the top of the conference in TFLs. Their D line is asked to do a lot. Its always a very selfless postion group that knows they will always be fighting an uphill battle and embraces their role.
ISU was the first P4 to commit to it as their base defense in order to slow down the high powered spread offenses that benefited from QB talent and rule changes. Clemson and NE, among others, consulted him when installing the defense over the years. CMCâs staff has always been made up of young up & comers. Heacock is the exception. He is the lone grey beard on the staff
Heacock has been a head coach before, but he has chosen to serve under Campbell since Toldeo. Heacock turned down Notre Dame DC position when Freeman took over to remain with CMC and staff. There are many imitators using the 3-3-5 now a days, but there is only one Jon Heacock.
ISU is perennially one of the top defenses in the Big 12 in CMCâs 9 year tenure under Heacock. The 3-3-5 is their identity and calling card.
Campbell probably had to watch a ton of film to fine good things to say about us lol
I think we have a realistic shot at a win. We have the home field plus itâs still early in the season. Two good motivators that may help the team to wake up. The lopsided loss last week on the road doesnât bother me that much. Kansas State had an embarrassing loss at BYU last week, but I donât think that means KSUâs season is over already.
Wow. Even with 2 fumbles in the last game Sanford II is still above Parker in the depth chart. Is Jenkins in the dog house? Injured?
Must be out of favor with coaches. He played at least an entire series with Chriss in second half vs Cincy so I donât think hurt.
Shame. I was so excited that he decided to stay. At least he will always be a beast for me in NCAA 2025 video game.
Freshman Derek Joiner is backup OL. Congrats!
I know itâs a portal world but he is just a sophmore and has a redshirt. Hopefully he gets it going down the road.
This is something that can be taken advantage of, especially in the helmet communications era, by changing the play from a QB run/option to a throw over the middle, maybe down field.
First you have to have a qb that can make the decision and throw quickly to the right color jersey.
Was that 90 proof 'Jack or ++moonshine??
Totally off topic, but since my wife and I left Houston about 30 years ago I have missed Star Pizza more than almost anything else. Man, I love some Star Pizza, and get it every time Iâm in town.
If they ever opened a Star Pizza here in Austin Iâd be camped out on the day they opened.
Canât be any worse than last week
I usually get the Starburst, but I love the Spinach pizza also.
Football ops and scoreboard has really transformed that end of the stadium. Stole the pic from our Assoc AD.

With regards to the gameâŠ
Knowing how CMC is, he burned the UNLV and Cincy tape and has the Oklahoma and Rice highlights on a loop in the facility 24/7.
We might as well be playing the '85 Bears on the verge of putting it all together Saturday for all this ISU team has likely heard from the staff.
