You think he’ll care about women’s tennis if they need funds if basketball is in the same line ![]()
Why? I am open to anyone qualified to be the AD, whether male or female, but why specifically a woman? I just want the best we can get for the salary we can offer.
JJ Watt. He is one of the most popular names in Houston and will raise money which is what it’s all about.
- Joe Castiglione
- Scott Woodward
- Danny White
When his job is to look over the entire AD, yes.
Honestly, I could not tell you the difference between #1 and #50. I feel good that Kelvin Sampson is part of the search team. Sampson knows what is needed to make coaches successful. He is such a goldmine of information. The Administration would be well served to get marketing feedback from Lauren Sampson. She is a superstar at what she does.
Contact Jim Nantz to gauge the level of his interest.
Sports icon. Television personality. Ties to UH.
Natural fundraiser, communicator with magnetism. Highly visible, positive public image.
If we’re looking for someone to attract mega donors within and outside the UH community, Nantz would be a natural candidate.
Hunter is #7? He is a nice guy but did he do something great we don’t know about?
Donald Trump… Make UH Great Again!!!

Please no political comments. Instant turn off for me.
Turn off… here’s your exit…
Y’all really need to learn how to chill out again… saying someone’s name and making a parody joke isn’t political…
MAKE AMERICA CHILL AGAIN
Jim Nantz!!
Now this is the type of thinking outside the box we need. This definitely the type of person that’s needed in today’s athletic landscape.
How about Reid Ryan. He’s currently CEO of the Ryan baseball family business but before that he was president of operations for the Houston Astros. During that time he negotiated and made contacts with major business entities in Houston and throughout the state. He also knows how to run a sports organization.
Jim is great at what he does and if the new AD is smart, he/she will use him a lot for fundraising, but as an AD? No, and I doubt Jim thinks he would make a good AD.
I see the President and BOR have seen what requirements a candidate must have. The only thing I know is it was time for a new AD. I just hope they make the right choice.
Some thoughts on the people listed above:
- Kelvin Sampson - don’t want him distracted from basketball
- Jim Nantz - unless he’s going to move to Houston full time, he’s better as a resource, plus I don’t think he’s ready to give up his day job.
- Oliver Luck - certainly should be in the conversation, although I wonder if he’s a bit past his prime (so to speak)
- Reid Ryan - interesting/out of the box, he may need some strong assistants that know college well.
- Amber Burda - ditto what I said about Reid but I would bet she might be able to sell Houston better
- Jeremiah Dickey - honestly don’t know much on his accomplishments but he’s been very visible and has been here before, certainly worth a look
Here’s one no one has considered:
Lauren Sampson - would it be too much of a leap? Might be prime for a promotion though even if not the top job
Selmon is def a name to watch.
Yes!
