Gofundme to get rid of Tom Herman 🤣

I would like to see that also. They only way they do right now if the buy out is just too much for them in this year of COVID. The alums are overwhelming against Herman. It isn’t even close. I’ve seen nobody try to defend to keep him on their board. They hated him last year but seemed OK with the step that they needed to swap out those coordinators first (they often referred to them as CUSA coaching staff) and Herman’s buyout was too much.

It isn’t even a discussion point whether they should keep him. Too me it would be a surprise if Herman was still their coach in 2021.

Schadenfreude vis a vis Herman.

The social justice movement at UT is threatening to dismantle their entire athletic program. A big part of this is the fairly recent hype that The Eyes of Texas is racist. Herman (for fear of alienating his black players…AND adversely affecting his future recruiting of black players) has chosen to acquiesce. His position is that if a player isn’t ā€œcomfortableā€, they do not have to stay on the field post game and honor the school and fans. After the loss Saturday, Ehlinger was the only player to do so. Now, the university president has formed a committee to ā€œexamineā€ the legitimacy of The Eyes. From what I hear, if they ditch the song (and like it or not, it IS a powerful symbol) that has been their Alma Mater for over a hundred years, the well healed, money bags Alumni that ā€œrunā€ this program will NOT be happy. It is a BIG mess.

I can confirm that’s the case. I don’t sing it, and some spirit orgs at UT might phase it out. They sing it in full terms of spirit and acknowledge the history it has, but prefer it as a spirit song and nothing to do with race.

Seems like a no win situation. Alienate the players or the donors either way the job is in jeopardy

If Herman wins out (8-2) and wins the B12, he will be there in 2021 but if he loses a third game, he will definitely be on the hot seat.

Just my .02, as a UH alum I would completely be in favor of revising the UH alma mater if it was in the same boat.

True, if he wins out and wins the B12, he will be there next year, unless they do a deal with one of their hot candidates first. :sunglasses:

But what do you think the chances are that he’ll win out and win the B12? I am not betting my retirement investments on that one.

History has shown, when a Whorn or Aggy HC is in trouble and are getting dogged out and beat up in any given year, they typically die sadly. Herman is looking like and sounding like dead man walking that we have all seen before. The alums and supporters do not like him very much and the team isn’t showing any level of life to win. The Eyes issues are not helping him with the alums or with the administration.

I would love to see him last another year or two, the hysterical Whorns have been a ball bust to read and listen too, but I think all of our fun with Herman’s misery in Austin will end this year and he’ll walk away with $18M more for being a fired coach. Can’t feel too sorry for him with that settlement.

Did UT fans really think Orlando was the problem?

Orlando did turn their D around his first year and made them far tougher and far higher ranked. But the D slipped in year 2 and 3 and Orlando took the blame for that. Orlando has to be held accountable for their drop off. It was the DC.

Hopefully I don’t take incoming for saying this on our board, but to be fair, their song has been far more beloved among their alumni than ours has been. That song has transended outside of UT and been played at political conventions in the state and so forth. Personally, I hate that freakin song for it sounds like they are speaking for all Texans whey they sing it. But their song is far more part of their history and their alumni and fan experience than ours has been.

It was back at the turn of the 20th century, almost 120 years ago when those minstrel acts occurred with the help of that song. I understand both sides of that issue and UT certaionly has had a racist past. Just spend some time listening to their history professor that exposed it all. Its their problem to solve and we’ll see if they can solve it. Until then, its a huge division among the UT students, administration, and alums. Its not an easy issue, I am glad UH doesn’t have such an issue.

Yup, their song was always recognizable. I did not know anything about the songs origins, it’s a hot mess.

It feels like UH’s alma mater wasn’t a big deal to our fans for long time until the last 5 years or so. This may offend some but our alma matter is not good. However, a lot of other Univerisities songs aren’t good. They are silly. Best part of the song though… True we’ll ever be.

Our alma mater is better than most other ā€œbig schoolsā€ melodically and lyrically. This coming from a young alumni. Name one that you might think is better.

I think alma mater’s are all pretty silly, I guess. They are like a church song or something.

Graduating from a school that has no song, UHD, I’d say UH’s Alma Mater holds up pretty well having heard it lots the last 15 years. If you guys love it, that’s all that counts. I hope other schools love their own songs, as all graduates and fans deserve that. Except maybe Horns and Aggies.

If Urban coaches again, bet it is USC. Makes sense in so many ways. However, he gets paid to do commentary and analysis, pretty sweet gig.

Up to $60!

The service academies have great ones.

I think the only job Urban would take would be ND. But I dont think it will be open anytime soon.
